Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Full moon and clear sky... deer will move at night. With the cold front moving in and cloud cover, the deer will move at dusk like we need them too.

This morning was so pretty with the heavy frost.

No white stuff falling in Ann Arbor area so far... you can keep it up there Sam, I'm ok with that!!

Talked to another surveyor today. He said we should find our actual deed to see the verbiage vs the Legal description. This is the problem my dad had with his land. His neighbors had a lot surveyed they were selling and it was posted by the surveyor (also no longer certified cause he was a hack).. but I digress... they put the posts well out in to my dads field past a row of trees we believed was the line. Well, dads deed said his property line was defined as the fence row (trees). Luckily there was a few strands of old barb wire stuck in the trees to prove where the fence line was supposed to be and he got his swath of land back. Luckily also including the trees, we know the neighbor who was buying the land would have cut them down and sold them (huge walnut and oak trees). So now I'm on the hunt for my deed.. Learning new things all the time... just hoping the neighbors deed doesn't say fence line! LOL! So, if anyone here has issues with borders check your deeds vs legal description - they could be different.

The last house we lived at, we heard a story about our property line. The original owner's new neighbor built a garage that encroached. Rather than have the guy tear down his new garage, he proposed that he just put up a privacy fence on the "new" property line and call it even (however that works, lol). So the guy built a fence a couple of feet past the garage, encroaching even further. The original owner threw up his hands, clearly angry, but not willing to take issue so to this day the garage is two feet from the property line so that when I wanted to put up my own privacy fence (an extension of theirs) to block those unwanted neighbors, I had to put it well into my own property so they could get around their garage to access their backyard. DOH! SO glad to be rid of that house and those neighbors.

In spite of all the talk of ignoring the coming winter I am afraid that there is white stuff falling. In keeping with our vain attempt to ignore it I refuse to call it by its name but it is definitely coming down in quantities that are indisputable. If there is anyone in the Howell area that would like some small but very sweet yellow delicious apples I still have quite a few on the tree that you are welcome to. We made some wonderful applesauce last week from them.
Yep, when I pulled in my drive here in Howell ~16:00, it was definitely "powder sugaring"! And I may take ya up on some apples...depends on what I get done Friday & whether or not I will have time Sat or Sun to use them! Looks like gonna have to do some outdoor winter prep stuff a little earlier than I was planning... I just went out to put birds in pen. And the sugar is REALLY coming down right now!:(

Hey guys, got u a deer... One that was hit by a car. Might have to call someone out to shoot him :/

We've had our big girls and our little girls in a duplex-type setup with hardware cloth in between them in the run and the coop. They've been out in the yard together with supervision, and only occasionally will the Australorp peck the Silkie or the d'uccle. Over the weekend, I decided it was time, and started by cutting a small hole in the wire between them in the run. I misjudged how fluffy the big girls really are, and now they push their way into the small run, but not the other way around. That is going okay.
I think this weekend, I might just take the wire down completely between them in the run.

@tdhenson86 another Masters program? That's ambitious!

Trefoil where do you live, i have some rouens females 6month old ducks.. beautiful.. I am selling for a friend, $10. each.. i am in Oscoda..

Thats a nice milker set up..

De is safe as long as your using foodgrade DE
I'm in Millington, just N of Flint.

I have a sick bird. He's tossing his head and snot is flying all over the place. I have him quarantined - he's a new bird so never been with the flock. I'm pretty disappointed. Not sure how to treat it. I just gave him some boiled eggs and yoghurt. His appetite is fine. Better go and check the web, where everything is true!
I was just reading about acv (vinegar) for chickens, one of its benefits is that it controls mucus, so you might want to add some to the sick bird's water.
-It hailed here this afternoon, its too early for winter.

For future reference (if you didn't know this and/or didn't do this ), when you hit a deer or see one that was recently hit; call the Sheriff or MSP and they will come & put the deer out of its misery AND, in most counties, they will either give you a tag or, if you don't want the meat, they have a list of families in need of meat & processors licensed to provide it to them or the local food bank.

If it was you that was hit by the deer, hope no major damage.

Well this morning is starting off about an hour earlier than I'd like, but I guess that goes with the territory. Picked up our newest foster doggy yesterday and the poor girl is as confused as all get out. She's 18mo old, and just had her 3rd litter (10 pups), but unsurprisingly since she's in poor body-condition, she wasn't producing milk for them and puppies were dying. As a result, they split the puppies into groups of 2 or 3 to be fostered and bottle-fed and got mama out of the "puppy room" so that she doesn't associate it with her now-missing pups. She's very sweet, but if I leave her sight she's chewing on and breaking the bars of her kennel. She's made a hole big enough to fit her head through, so one of the women that helps run the organization is dropping off a more appropriate crate some time this morning.

I saw a deer moving through the field near our south property line at 7 last night, so hopefully I'll have pictures on the camera when I go check it. Still need to get the stand set down there, but that won't happen until Saturday or Sunday at the earliest.

We have almost an inch of powdered sugar on our porch railing this morning. Yuck. I really need to get the 'flaps' on the end of the big coop screwed shut and the buckets with the nipples and heaters back in the coops soon too I suppose. I'd rather do that when it's 45 than when it's 25!
