Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I harvested the few squash that actually grew in the garden. A small acorn squash was hard as a rock but it was full of seeds that the littles just devoured. Happy, happy kids here.

The only squash I grow (& like) is spaghetti. It went NUTS this year. I cooked & vacuum sealed 60 cups. Gave my neighbor quite a few (I get my zucchini from her for breads & such), took some to work and STILL have a dozen in the cellar!

Just finished dealing with about half of the 1/2 bushel of apples DH brought from local orchard yesterday (he was there helping them out; we always get all of our apples au gratis). More applesauce; a homemade apple pie I have been promising a co-worker (even homemade crust...).

I am sick of peeling, coring & slicing apples....

Welcome new people. There are a lot of folk here with lots of good, solid advice based on real experience.
Feel free to ask questions.

Preciouskitty, I just made homemade applesauce for my kids. They have been bugging me for it over a month now. So I feel your pain... I didn't even make that much.

I can't believe how it cooks down. 1/4 bushel got me 3qts. Of course, since I have now made & canned roughly 36pts worth, I knew that was all I'd get!

It is sooooo worth it though; I love homemade, chunky applesauce & it's great always having some ready down in the pantry (my recipe basically tastes like apple pie filling, so a jar goes QUICK!)

It's funny, I don't like applesauce, apple pie, cider, or any other cooked apples. I LOVE fresh apples though! My kids however like apple everything ;-) so therefore I cook it...
