Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Surgery Center called me today. Check in time for my surgery Tues is 3:05. Nothing to eat after midnight! Are you kidding me????? I can have clear liquid at 7am. So, I have to get up early just to drink something. Man, there better be a huge steak waiting for me when I get home. I'm gonna be mighty hungry!

Beautiful day today!! Hope you all are outside enjoying it!
That is so late to go w/out eating and drinking. All surgery's should be early in the morning. Hope all goes well and you get ur steak.

Oh it looks AWFUL!  It's supposed to rain all day and the kids REALLY want to take the dog with us this year after seeing a lobster costume at one of the stores.  We compromised because there's no way he'd leave all of the dangly parts alone and I've made him a knight costume (to go with the toddler's dragon costume; the older 2 boys are Mario and Sonic) that he hopefully won't be too irritated by.

Oh, please post pix of the kids (& pup) in costumes..everyone with kids!

That's the one thing I really miss about not being in an area w/ trick-or-treaters! Especially the little ones. They are just so darn cute!

Ok precious kitty, we have never really done Halloween(just some harvest festivals). However, if ur handing out $5, I might send my boys ur way. If you get 2 -6ft' teens, they're mine. lol To bad it would probably cost them more in gas $.

I am not puter savvy and have tried to reply to just a certain part of a post and haven't figured it out yet. Opa or someone maybe could explain how. I'm learning more about the puter and chickens and life being on this thread. LOVE IT!!!

I thought the leaves *were* the brown? So confusing to get my head wrapped around this idea. I did grab a huge bag of grounds from starbucks (free!) the other day and put that in there yesterday while I was shredding and dumping leaves. I swear, it's a good thing we don't have neighbors close enough to see me. First I'm raking leaves and bringing them OUT of the woods, them I'm running the lawn mower in 30 second increments for an hour!

I've also got about 6 or so cubic feet of chicken poop from the meaties we had in the spring. My plan is to NOT put that in the compost pile, and to sprinkle and till it in in the spring.
I brought in several bags of leaves after doing some volunteer work and as I was dumping the leaves on the front lawn, a man walking by watched for a few minutes then said, "you're doing that bass-ackwards you know". Mulched leaves are good for the lawn, they disappear within a day or 2.

Composting can be like arguing over college football teams or who makes the better car. Many, many ways of doing it. So I'll add in my 2¢.
Leaves, coffee grounds and chicken poop are all "green" materials, high in nitrogen. Left alone, they will still decompose. Mix in the "browns" with high carbon and the pile just works better. I would add the poop and any old cop[ sweeping directly to pile and let it cook all winter.

I'll be working on my piles today if the rain isn't too heavy.

Thanks for the well wishes! It's a very minor surgery similar to carpal tunnel, just on the side of the wrist.

Glad everyone make it thru their procedures ok.

Sorry for the family problems. It's hard when parents get older. It was hard for me because I moved away from home. We still stayed close and sure do miss our times together.

Ugly day. Feel bad for the kiddos. Maybe it will stop for a few hours and they can get their trick or treating in. Our neighborhood has a hayride and the kids are dropped off at the end of the street. We're the 4th house to get hit, so they basically come all at once and it's over with in ten minutes. Really no time to notice the costumes or the kid's faces. We have long driveways, so most everyone sits at the end of the driveway to hand out candy.

Have a good day everyone.

Rough day today, 2 weeks ago my85 year old mom fell while stepping off a stepladder, missed a step, fell off backwards and hit her back on the kitchen counter. While her back is healing, ever since then she's been having sharp tearing feeling spasms in her upper abdomen. Doctor (who we've tried to get her to switch from for 20 years) says no biggie take some meds. Well happened today while she was driving to a little shop. She turned into the shop and had the spasm, couldn't hit the brakes, jumped the curb, hit a parked car of a worker and car stopped straddling one of those cement barriers in front of parking spots. When I got there she was in ambulance but didn't want to go to hospital. I convinced her to go, told her my sister was gonna make her go in tonight anyway, might as well get it over with. She was like I'm fine. But then would say how horrible of pain it was. We are like mom, that's not OK!!!! ( as there are 15 of us kids, and some are more forceful than others, i knew a few were gonna freak if she didnt go in) So blood work, cat scan, and hours later they can find nothing to attribute these pains too. Found some more minor things like bladder infection, etc but nothing to explain her excrutiating spasms. So frustrating, she is leaving for Florida for the winter in three days and I hate being so far that we can't check on her and visit her much. Sorry for the long rambling, I just needed to write it out and as she said, nobody better put this on Facebook!!! So I figure since no one here knows my mom I can release my worries for her here. BTW, tonight we were supposed to be taking her out to dinner and spending time together one last time before she left, but in stead I brought her take out after she was finally released this evening :-(

Have you considered taking her to a chiropractor? She may be out of alignment.. it can mess you up! When my back goes out, due to an older injury (between my shoulder blades), I cannot breath when the muscles spasm.

Hi everyone
Went to bed last night to a screeching sound going off. So I'm laying there $%###$% whoever had their Halloween prop on. Got up this morning walk out side to screeching. Seems it was one of my props.

I'm an artist as some of you know... I am also a fan of odd, creepy, monstery type stuff..I got something today I'm really excited about. I'm a fan of an artist that does ink illustrations in pointillism (tiny dots). I am putting the piece I purchased in the warning spoiler cause there is a half naked woman in the drawing. He does this wonderful combination of animals, people and plants...pieces parts all mixed up. Love his work!

It's called "Cuckoo's Promise" a dreaming woman following nocturnal creatures into their world.

You'd think loving art, that I would have some on my walls at home...... but I have very few things. A few oil paintings from a family friend and one of mine. I need more and may get a couple more of his prints while they're on sale.
