Birds don't need to dust bath in the winter. BUT they sure do like it. You know those tubs you can get for under the bed? Use one of those, or even a kitty litter pan or two with sand in it if you don't have much room in the coop.

I have got to get a picture of the hole the birds have put under the 4x8... OMG I can't believe how deep it is...

Yeah, now DH just phoned in he got a 9pt- 2 deer comin home tonite. Can't ask for better than that. Do chickens need to dust bathe in the winter. Mine have 1 outside, but the snow will cover

that up soon.

yes you should have a dust bath, I use part sand,part,peat and part wood ash also DE, , haven't bought the peat yet so I hope I can find some I have a couple old wash tubs, they love it

What a crazy day hunting. Went out in the morning.. didn't see or hear anything. My back was pretty sore so I decided to head in for lunch and some pain killer. This afternoon, we loaded up in the mule and headed out. Dropped everyone off, and I was last to get in my stand. I no more got up the tree, organized and looked to the left and here come two deer huffin and snorting on my right. Grabbed my gun that was still in a holder behind me and managed to get a buck! From someone who can no longer tell you with certainty how many deer I have killed, I can tell you that the excitement of each deer has never diminished. Congratulations to all.

Good to hear you're home ok opa...and that you're fed so wandering critters are safe for the moment.

For winter I put a washtub with 75% sand and wood ash and de in the coop. I put it under platform so to keep poop out. I fill it at least twice during the winter. The chickens do eat it so only use food grade de like 1mutts said. Make sure your sand is dry or you just end up with a frozen sand block.

Last year, while checking checking blinds, I found several empty beer cans and a empty 1/2 pint schnapps bottle which lead to a rather heated "discussion" with the nephew of my old farmer friend. I have many safety rules I try to enforce on our hunting property and the prohibition of drinking alcohol while hunting is one of them. It could contribute to a tragedy. Here's praying everyone has a safe and sucessful weekend of hunting.
