Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Given the fact that I haven't had anything to eat since midnight, and that it will be nearly 5pm before I clear the recovery room, any animal not capable of moving faster than I, would be well advised to give the corridor from Novi to Howell a wide berth.

Congrats!!!! (& tell him nice sweatshirt :D) I'm hoping DH finishes filling our freezer today (or I do...in about 30 mins I will be done with work stuff). Deer must be moving right now cuz I am hearing the shotguns blasting...keeping an eye in case they push dinner towards my house ;)

Trying to get ideas for winter time dust bathing? what does everyone do in Michigan to help with the dust baths...anything? Do they like to take dust baths in the winter?

We have two coops. One with a small run, the other does not have one due to free ranging all day.

ibrykowski...Yes, your son got a very nice deer and it is a super sweatshirt!

Candy442, Last year I put a 10 ? gallon or so tub in the coop with a mix of sand , peat and DE. It was the size of one those extra large rubber ones they have at TSC. Only this one is really a small backyard water feature base. worked pretty good. This year with having more hens, I am going to put in the (covered) run.

anything with deep sides. They will fling it! Keep a few 5 ga pails of it if you are lucky enough to have sand on your property. (You will have to dump and replentish) A bath and a window to sun in makes their day. Deep bedding and save the corn for afternoon treats that you fling into the bedding and they will happily search the afternoon away. I free feed pellets too.

what's the view on using some wood ashes in the mix? I have some extra bags of play sand, but thought it should be mixed with the dirt they normally like and maybe some ashes from our wood burning stove?

My new job has been doing mandatory 6 days a week...
Finally getting used to it i think.

Don't leave much time for the birds but 2nd is perfect for being home to do frozen water in the a.m.

Opa, i am thinking of you much and pray all is well SOON
