Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Not me. I live in a state of denial.

Even though I just cleaned the wood stove, toted in more firewood and stacked a new pile up closer to the back door.  18 degrees and I have worked up a sweat.

OMG. Sick as I am at the moment. I just burst out laughing.
Here is where I am lucky having a youngster (very sweet ~20yo friend) willing to work for eggs, baked(well. any home cooked food), etc. He just brought 2+cords of wood up next to my side door (I.e., 3' from my stove :).

PK- sure hope you feel better, nobody should be sick around or for the holidays, to much to do.

Raz- I think most live in that state, they just keep denying it.

I broke out the snow suit today to do chores, nice n warm and can keep my pj's on that way w/out the neighbor laughin

Well, added a new member to my small herd to meet the milk demand. Got her on Saturday. She was already named, but I liked it, its Pearl. She is due this month or the next, expecting her 2nd calf. 100% Jersey. Almost 2 years old!

That's awfully young. If this is her second calf, she must have been bred before 6 months of age the first time. I hope she does well.

I think some of the people who walk down your sidewalk at night are in some sort of state too!

Quote: We have no electricity to the coop so we use rubber bowls. We have two (one for a spare) but mostly can just pop the ice out and refill the one bowl. It is amazing how the chooks will work at keeping the water open during the day.

eta: Wish we could find small rubber bowls for the rabbits. As is, we rotate out their crocks with the frozen ones being brought in to thaw. DH is picking up more crocks today as we ended up with another bunny over the weekend. DH went to look at something on craigslist and the owners had this bunny. First they wanted to sell it....then offered to give it to him. DH took it for the simple fact that the poop was so deep on the tray that it was mounded up inside the cage..

I don't think that bunny knew what to think when he was put into one of our hutches with clean bedding, a resting pad, fresh hay....like all the rest of our animals, our bunnies are spoiled

With 3825 posts since I last checked in, I don't think I will be able to catch up! Just wanted to pop in to say hello. My hubby and I just got back from the Knoxville ABA Nationals. They were having the worst weather in the past several years when we were down there, which meant 40s and rain and about 1" of snow in some places. I wish they could have a taste of weather in Michigan today! We went hiking in the Smokey Mountains - gorgeous! - and I entered one of my mottled cochins, my first show, and placed a 2nd which I am happy with.

I use a heated hanging waterer in my main coop, the heated bases with metal waterers in my two tractors, and 100 watt heat bulbs pointed at the water in my couple cages in the garage. I think sometime next summer I will be putting up a larger coop building that will mainly be cages for individual birds and indoor pens for small groups. I didn't figure I'd be going in this show bird direction when we first bought our hatchery birds and built our coop. Now I keep having the problem of where to keep all my roosters separate so that is something I'll have to work on. I was excited to see last night that our coop was chosen as Coop of the Week on BYC. I'd like to keep the same cottage-theme for the next building, but just much bigger! :)

Today I had a snow day which means I didn't have to go in to work. Very nice, but a foot of snow was not so nice. I am very tired of shoveling.

My Question:

I have a showgirl rooster. I went out to close up this evening and he was soaking wet. Since it has been about 12 degrees out all day I'm sure he is very cold. I brought him in and put him in the basement. He was moving around in his coop but now just laying down. He's alert but now I am worried about him. Should I be doing more for him to warm him up? I think since he is in he will be washed tomorrow for my Beaks 'N Books program but I think warm water would be too much of a shock to his system right now.

Hair dryer on low setting to warm/dry him maybe?!?!?
