Need human contact. Know shouldn't go back til fever gone 24 hours. Would some of you Med types please tell me those I work with will be ok if fever gone by 3am???? (Pretty much know answer....)

Mostly I'm tired of not feeling 100% and I am especially tired of seeing doctors. Today I went to the Infectious Disease specialist and he was concerned about how my arm is healing. Supposedly the infection has cleared up but fluid continues to drain from the incision that should have healed by now. He thinks that perhaps a portion of the bursae remains and that is causing the problem. He send me to my elbow x-rayed and will be contacting the surgeon. If that is the case it will mean an additional surgery.

After returning from the doctor I got busy and made apple dumplings and a cinnamon syrup to pour over them when served. Once they were in the oven I started dicing the celery, onion, and bell peppers for the red beans and rice with andouille sausage I planned for supper. I figured with the cold temperatures a spicy Cajun meal would fix quite nicely.

I did sneak out to check on the birds this afternoon and they seem to be fairing quite well in spite of the bitter cold. Their covered run opens into the garden and most of the flock made the trek. What little snow we have hasn't seemed to bother them but I'm sure that will change once the snow depths increase.

Tap I would dry him as much as possible, maybe a heat lamp, not to close, how did he get wet?

My cochins all love the blow dryer. I would think they'd freak out, but once they get the idea that warm cozy air comes out of it, they just enjoy the special treatment.

I brought Galileo, the mottled cochin cockerel I brought to the show in Knoxville, inside today for a bit since he is otherwise in the garage. Since I separated him from the flock, he and the other cockerel now try to kill each other if I put him back in the main coop. My four year old has gotten very good at announcing "chicken poop!" very loudly, and I soon follow with the 409 spray bottle. I think with a chicken in the house, my floors will actually be cleaner than usual. Thank goodness we don't have any carpet!

Silly- She was bred back to Jersey. Naturally .

Well, added a new member to my small herd to meet the milk demand. Got her on Saturday. She was already named, but I liked it, its Pearl. She is due this month or the next, expecting her 2nd calf. 100% Jersey. Almost 2 years old!

That's awfully young. If this is her second calf, she must have been bred before 6 months of age the first time. I hope she does well.

The lady that I brought her from told me that when she was having the vet to check her out when Pearl was 14 months old, she was shocked to find out that Pearl was 5 months along for her calf. Pearl had been in the pasture with the bulls of the same age. But, since Pearl was too young to deliver the calf, the calf died while being born, and had to be pulled out. But, I know that her 2nd calf will be born with no issues as Pearl is older and at the right age to be delivering calves. Still, I will keep an eye on her as much as I can.

Thanks. I may just switch to rubber bowls like all my other animals. Nobody else has mentioned what they do? Anyone?

We have a cookie tin heater. 20 watt bulb keeps the water from freezing.

With these cold temps, I'm seeing alot of people saying their putting vaseline or udder cream on the wattles n combs, at what temp do you do this or do you not have to? Mine are in the coop or a covered run, they're not venturing out to far right now, but don't know how susceptible they are to frostbite. They won't free range right now, yesterday was the 1st day even the ducks wouldn't leave their run.

Bought the sand yesterday and gonna put a lil DE n wood ash in and they will have a new dust bath to play in for the winter, maybe that will cheer them up with the cold temps. Well off to make their oatmeal and warm water jugs. Stay bundled!!

I did blow dry Buzz the showgirl some. However under normal bath conditions (towel dry , blow dry and air drying it takes him about 8 hours to dry.). This morning he is finally dry while all the bedding he was sleeping on is soaked. He was in last winter for a month when I thought there was something wrong, there wasn't but he was very well mannered.

. This was him making himself at home in my sewing room. I expect he will be right at home this time as well.

Out into the snow this morning as son has an allergy test this morning, that he is looking forward to. Crazy kid!
