Beautiful cookies! I'm so far successful in NOT getting an incubator-- I'l be in so much trouble if I do! My broodies raise some bantam chicks every year, and I buy some chicks. My flock of SS all went under last spring (daytime fox!) and I don't have any large breed birds to breed on this spring. More chicks! Does Wynette only sell eggs, or will she sell chicks? I live close, so could pick them up... Looking for Marans, SS, and Chanteclers. Mary

To the gentleman who was driving a white car on Saginaw in Lansing today with a My pet makes me breakfast bumper sticker, that was me staring at you and trying to figure out who you were! lol Had two stuffed chickens on your dash board on left side. Identify yourself!!
Not him, but I saw at minivan with a BYC bumper sticker that said the same thing. I wonder if they are available on this site? Came from somewhere associated with BYC. Be a nice addition to CS if we could get some and use as door prizes....

I think they gave out bumber stickers at our 2nd CS. I had one on my dash. Have a lease car so don't want to attach anything on it. Well, opened my window once and there it flew out! Think they have em in the the BYC store.

Good Morning! It's mighty cold out there so stay warm and check on your nest boxes often! Oh, but the sun is shining!!

I grew up calling it Meijer's but now that DH works for corporate, I'm not allowed to do that anymore.

Anyway, my molting barred rock is thankfully still inside with these cold, cold temps. She won't come out of the cage though, even though I leave the door open all day long. I attribute that to what I call her 'molting neurosis'. When I chase her out of the cage to change the pad, she flies up on a chair back and yells at me (warning call) until I put her back inside. Then she's perfectly calm and quiet until the next time. She's eating well and seems healthy so when the temps warm up later this week, I'll probably put her back out. The room that she's staying in isn't heated and keeps around 45° so it will be easier to acclimate her then.

They're forecasting even more snow for this afternoon/tonight. It's funny how the NOAA and the local news vary so widely on their amount totals. I tend to stick with NOAA because I think the local news covers so much area, including the lake shore, that they have to give such a broad estimate. NOAA seems to be more accurate thus far, even when they put their B team on board while their finest are on furlough or whatever. I'm just glad the winds are back from the west. That east wind was brutal the other day. The sheep wouldn't even leave the barn.

Mr. Meijer, was friends with my Grandfather back in the day, he had asked Gramps to manage his first store in Grand Rapids.... he turned it down. I have to wonder what our lives would be like today if Gramps had taken him up on the offer!

We spent a good portion of the weekend.....shoveling.. and shoveling... and well you get the point. I think we got about 8" total. I haven't tried any berne clothes.. I find that most womens clothes made for working in, is only made to make you look good while working.. not to actually hold up or be comfortable. I wear a pair of mens coveralls when it's real cold. I have a pair of the Schmidt work gloves and they're ok for a while.

While I was out checking the uggo coop during the daylight.. I noticed one of my uggo hens was not doing well. I only get to see the birds after dark during the work week and they're all roosting. She has almost zero feathers. Between the roos and molting. They damaged a lot of her new feathers too so I have no idea if she will grow any to cover her body.. So she just joined Button in the garage for the winter. At least they won't be alone. I cut a sleeve off a sweatshirt and slipped that on her to keep her warm. She is also very weak and thin. I don't think she was going outside to eat and she walks like her feet were frozen. I've been giving her feed and live meal worms.. is there anything else beside cooked eggs that would help put some weight on her? Can you feel a hen from the outside to see if she is egg bound? When I brought her in, I gave her a warm bath. I'm hoping that it's just her health that is stopping her from laying right now. She had been laying up until a day before I pulled her.

I have a byc bumper sticker.. but that wasn't me!
