Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Now that Christmas is over, I'm ready for the snow to melt. I do love a white Christmas!!!

Opa, I have not seen any posts from you lately. I just drank my coffee without you... Are you feeling ok? I know you have had a rough go lately.
I'm sorry for those still without power. If I can help in any way, please PM me.
After all of this talk about cold weather, I have a cold weather issue... My Alfa male rooster "Jack" is an Isa Brown. He has a large comb that is getting frost bitten. Yesterday he had blood on his comb, and top of his head/back of his neck. I'm not up there to put utter cream or anything on it. The coop is cleaned daily, and its well ventilated. The waterer is a 5 gal bucket kept warm with a heat lamp and has about 6 nipples attached to it. So he's not getting his comb wet by putting his head in water...
Any other ideas? The chickens are up north where its very cold.

I'm one of the unlucky on day 6 of no power. And yes I'm on a well so no water. I melted snow for chicken water and toilets. DTE has put my area as having power twice this week. We're in the forgotten zone. Almost out of firewood and my sanity is being greatly tested! Not sure if we'll have power by the new year at this rate. On the outage map there are 1000 without power that had a completed work order. Idiots!
My chickens aren't used to waiting for water. They're laying well though. I have lots of eggs and no way to cook them.

I'm sorry to read that some are still without power. It's got to be just awful. Lady, I'm sorry about your fish and the freezer contents.

I have been giving our birds Flock Raiser feed instead of the usual stuff to help the big girls grow out their feathers after a hard molt. Their new feathers are so pretty. Our black australorp has a bunch of feathers coming back in with white tips. My hen is going grey with age!

Hello from SE Michigan! Sorry to hear that so many of you are still having power issues. I lost power for 24 hrs, and due to having well water, I didn't have water either. Had to get buckets of water from the pond to flush the toilet:rolleys: Lucky it wasn't cold enough to freeze the chickens' water, during the day at least.

I have my girls on flock raiser too, and also put poultry conditioner in thier feed. I want them to grow some healthy feathers for fair :D I give them oyster shells free choice for calcium as well.

All i wanted was a small grinder sausage stuffer, and this is what i end up with for Christmas.. You can tell i didnt pick this out.. i think my hubby went a little overboard.. grinds pretty fast though..

I feel bad for everyone without power or water, praying you get power and a shower soon..

I did get a shower! Yeah to be clean! I drove to a friend's house who has power. This is such a mess.
Happy for warmer weather. The chickens water won't freeze during the day.
