That sounds like a scam to me. Good way to get rid of the neighbors chickens though.

Wish I was closer those look sturdy enough for raised/container beds for square foot gardening or add a liner for water feature. Sorry to hear about sick Chickie's or losses. Well the roo I got with the hens wasn't broken after all(LOL). Didn't hear a peep out of him until late yesterday when my daughter added a brighter light and recorded him. I kept going out to see if I could catch him in the act to see how loud. Not a peep until this morning when was opening up the door crowed once not much louder then the country radio I leave on. Hope he stays on the quite side and don't have to try and re-home him. Anybody have any thoughts on those rooster collars?

Agree its cold outside brrrr between my daughter, me and another neighbor we have been rotating snow blowing the sidewalks on our block. Went out yesterday morning and did the sidewalks and behind some cars. Then cleared paths to everyone's front door since I don't think some people thought about the mailman and were just using their side doors.

Anyone else having trouble editing/copying/pasting text on BYC lately? It seems as if I can only paste text in here if I hit the 'source' button and then turn it off. But even then I have to format the text because it pastes clumped together. I always write my posts in Word and copy it over, mostly because I was "raised" on unreliable internet that would send text to another dimension when you finally went to post it, especially if it was long and took forever to write.

Here's the recipe for the Chocolate Eclairs; I didn't forget! I find this custard filling recipe to work the best because it's so thick. You can cut corners and lower the fat content with boxed puddings and whipped cream but I find the commercial varieties so runny that they soak into the eclairs, making them mushy really quick. These will keep several days before they get texturally funky... not that they ever last that long in my house. Just sayin'. I've tried several recipes over the years, swapping out different toppings and fillings but this is my favorite combo.

Chocolate Eclairs

Pastry
1 c H2O
1/2 tsp salt
½ c butter
1 c AP flour
4 eggs

Bring water, salt and butter to a boil. Remove from heat, add flour and stir until ball forms. Add eggs one at a time, beating each into the dough until smooth and eventually takes on a satiny texture. Mixture will be thick. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto cookie sheet and spread into 1" x 5" strips or run through cookie press into strips 5” long (I use a mirro cookie press with the eclair tip (no. 32) which makes a 1" wide strip). Bake at 400 for 35-40 mins. Makes about 12.

Filling
2 ½ c milk
5 egg yolks
¾ c sugar
2/3 c AP flour
2 T butter
1T vanilla

In medium saucepan, heat milk almost to boil. Beat yolks and sugar in large bowl until pale yellow and thick. Beat flour into egg mixture until well mixed. Gradually beat in hot milk to temper; pour all back into sauce pan. Cook, stirring constantly, over med-hi heat until mixture thickens and boils. Lower heat. Stir until any lumps disappear 2-3 mins. Will be very thick. Remove from heat, add vanilla. Chill at least 2 hrs.

Chocolate Icing
1 c sugar
¼ c cocoa
¼ c butter
¼ c milk
1 tsp vanilla

Mix all except vanilla, heat and boil for 1 min. Add vanilla. Cool partially, then beat until thick.

To assemble, cut slit down the side of each eclair and fill with custard. Top each with the chocolate icing. Voila!

I always thought that neighbors helped each other out. Sadly, that isn't the case here in my neighborhood. As I was clearing snow from a neighbor's drive, the woman across the street from there started complaining. Yesterday she threatened to call the cops because the wind was carrying snow across the street into the park.
Today as I was pulling a car out of a snow bank, she came out itching that I was blocking the street.
Some people, eh?

Kudos to everyone who lends a helping hand to neighbors or strangers.

I'm also nearly brimming to the max with a rant that I want to spew concerning my in-laws but I can't bring myself to do it. So I'm going to offer it up in emoticons instead.

And that's pretty much my rant in a nutshell.
I couldn't really get it, did you spell check?

[so sorry you are having those issues again, I sometimes feel so lucky that I have the relatives I have; they are all pretty wonderful]
