Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Mixed a bunch of crushed shells into their grit - and they went crazy, even the 'roos. There seems to be a small amount of protein along with other minerals.

An emotional day for us. We just arrived back home after travelling through some nasty weather, and back home, with 13 new additions to our coop. All layers, all named, and all loved, and now re-homed with Cindy and I.

Awww... my hubby is the one who talked me into buying an incubator. But I think he knows I'm not truly happy unless I'm creating life and/or caring for something.
I have similar leanings. As a result we have a lot of animals and houseplants.

Something similar happened to me...
These chick photos are killin' me. My mantra: I will not get in the car and go to FFH. I will not "impulse buy" sweet chicks to get me through this polar vortex. I will be patient and wait for warmth and a broody hen to hatch eggs. Ohhhmmmm...

Those look like budgies, not canaries. I'm not sure, I'm no bird expert

Of course they are canaries. The only legal bird is a canary, according to local ordinance. No way they could be parakeets.
I hope a bald eagle never shows up. It would be arrested.

The temperature is rapidly heading downward and should set a new record low for this date. I would not be surprised if we reach double digit numbers ds well below zero. I'm already dreading going out to water the birds tomorrow.

For years I have maintained a rainbow flock of laying breeds but last February decided to replace the entire flock. I initially was going to purchase just ISA browns but opted to also purchase some black sex links and I glad that I did. They are an attractive breed and lay extremely well. Since I wanted to keep my total bird numbers down I only purchased 8 ISAs and 6 BSL. Those 14 birds have given me 460 eggs since January 1st and all have been predominately extra large and jumbos. For someone just getting into chickens and wanting calm thrifty high egg production birds I suggest you consider them.

They are really cute! Where do you find these awesome birds? Our pet stores around here only sell fish.
