Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Thermo Ply can be purchased at either Home Depot or Lowes. Cattle fencing would make a very poor fence for chickens. Won't keep chickens in and many predators could pass through the openings.

Sorry if you posted this and I missed it, but what were you up to ? Interesting pic bcz DD & I are scheduled for a trip to the Island in 2 wks... :/

Conference at the Grand. On the way over there was only one boat, the freight boat from St. Ignace. Now since we've been here you can take a ferry from Mackinaw, so no problem, just dress warm, think winter. DH tells me I'm up to a dozen guineas, way more than I need! My coworker had a calf born since we have been up here. We are both antsy to get back home and check out new babies.

Silly I love it!

I lost a chick to piling this year. Their first night without a light, fully feathered and warm but scared. Usually I check them repeatedly their first night but got busy and forgot.

@SkinnyDragon23 -sounds like she's gonna pull through just fine.

Silly, I just love your drawings and the humor.

My coops and doghouses aren't insulated, but I did put straw bales around them to help cuz it was such a bad winter. We are going to use the bales now for a straw bale garden. My in-laws took half to do the same. Thanks Raz for the idea and whoever else mentioned it. Spent a few days researching it and it looks like it will work great.

If the fencing you are talking about is woven wire it is has a mesh size of 2"x4". It would contain both adult chickens and ducks but would not be totally predator proof. A Red Brand 100' roll is $70 at Lowes

alternate version........

Sorta cleaned up might be too busy.. IDK this is not my area of expertise! .........anyone may use this, if they send me an email asking for permission and intention of use... [email protected]

Love your art work, the pencil sketch might make a cool T shirt for SC

For those of us mi people do you insulate or do anything special with your coops? Mine is just sided with t1-11 siding think this will be ok in the winter?
Draft free is most important, insulation is nice but not needed, and can end up filled with mice. I think the mice are in my walls, we have particle board over the insulation. had an issue this spring with starlings flying in the door and taking out insulation from an area that was not covered.was finding pieces of the stuff all over the yard, till I finally saw what was going on and closed the door so they couldn't get in

non chicken related topic

I just cleaned out my rose garden, a new area I started last fall, when do you fertilize and how often? I have putting coffee grounds on them all winter. looks like all of them have made it through this winter and are starting to leaf out
