Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

And yes, a better hunting spot will be nice. The only other spot I had was on the other side of the pond by the road.. I didn't like sitting there. Now I can sit near a crest of a hill and look/shoot downward into my land... not ideal, but an improvement, plus I can see them coming better. I will probably put up a perminant raised bline. That'll really help sell the sub lots! LOL@

Always good when mistakes are in your favor. Reminds me of monopoly. :)

My Spazzie is dead :hit

She has been indoors since December ....

I don't know what happened. She was acting lethargic yesterday...had her cuddled with me...

Don't think I'll have a necropsy or anything done since she hasn't been with the flock. She never did lay an egg..& was fourteen months old...

I am SOOOOOOO upset....she was my baby (my avatar).

I have never lost an animal of ANY kind...this is my first...(yeah, at 47 yrs old...ok, yea a parakeet or 2 when growing up...)

Been searching on the best way to bury her...crying the whole time.

I'm thinking cremation is the best as I don't know what caused her to pass...and if it is a disease of some sort I don't want to expose my current flock OR any of the wildlife in the by risking her being dug up, etc...

DH is out of town so I'm all alone in making this decision...& carrying it out.

Pretty sure she passed shortly after 5:30a this morn.

Preciouskitty I'm so sorry. It is tough when you are attached and they are part of the family.

I always bury my birds. Partly because digging the hole and the work of it helps me deal with it. Then, this is going to make me sound like a nut, but I always pull a couple feathers so I can keep them. They get wrapped in a piece of cloth and after they are buried they get a rock as a marker. Our whole property is littered with rocks so it is the work of picking one and hauling it. I guess for me it's more than just putting my bird in the ground, it is giving a respectful end to an animal that enriched my life. Go with what feels right for her and you. And tears are ok.

The loss of any living thing is always difficult but as sad as it is, it is one of the realities of life we must face. Given your location I would suggest taking her deep into the woods to allow other creatures to benefit from your loss.

Sitting here this morning drinking coffee, crossword puzzles are finished, water is heating for Granny's tea when she wakes. The day is slowly starting, and like any day that I find myself having a pulse, it is going to be another good one. Once breakfast is over I'll start peeling and dicing potatoes, rutabagas, and onions for the venison pasties Hope and I are going to make.

How is the hen duck today?
@HollyDuckFarmer and @fuzzybutt love

The hen is doing good. I had her isolated in a warm spot for 3 nights and on a 3 day round of meds. The 'hot" abdomen is back to normal and she's acting almost like her old self. I think today she'll be reintroduced to her flock.

That was the other option I have been considering...She might get company as a small yellow finch just smashed into the glass door next to me. Picked her up, but she's just been standing on the porch for the last 30 mins breathing heavily (& driving the cat nuts).

Trying to console myself in looking at the cycle of life...while Spaz passed this morning, one week ago today several new babies hatched to Maia.
Just tough as these are my first birds, dog, cats...& I haven't had to deal with this before...
Who'd've thunk a bird would upset me so much.....
