You don't just get a pet expecting your kids are going to WANT to take care of it... and when they won't, you better darn well be ready to step up!
I would never get an animal for my son and throw it away when he no longer took care of it or it was no longer cute...

sooooo....my suspected marans rooster still doesn't crow at uhhhh...... 12? weeks old. "He" is also quite a bit smaller than the 14? week old black copper marans pullet. I'm confused. Is this 'normal' since there are no other roosters in the area? When we put 'him' back in with the pullet after the pecking incident 'he' chased her around an did a quick, flailing mount......but maybe that was just a dominance thing since that was the ONLY time I've ever seen that?

Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining about a rooster that doesn't crow. I'm just

about it all.

My kid wants ducks again. I told him he may not have them again until he takes care of them himself and eats/sell their egg on his own. I have enough chores. You don't get a pet if you are unwilling to commit when your kid quit.

here ya go. "He" isn't going to have a comb since, according to the person we got him from, he got pecked on by mama as a day-old. No wattles yet either, but seems WAY too 'light' to be a girl????

Huh... I would think a girl regardless of the comb. BUT, I have no experience with BRs aside from the neighbors, and that only cuz I needed to kick the poop out of him when he attacked my kid from behind. He picked the wrong kid to go after, and I was so mad. LOL, he took off for the hills after that. The neighbor actually got rid of Bad Bob because he wouldn't stop attacking him. speared him a few times to many on the legs and front. Yup. And he was darker than this one you've posted.

It's supposed to be a cuckoo marans. leg color (which you can't see in this pick) is slate/pink while my BRs have yellow-y legs with black on the front. If that makes a difference.

Oh heck, if someone didn't tell me the difference on them, I wouldn't know. Although, I must say, that BR make you dizzier to look at. LOL!

Anyone have any tips for using a real pumpkin to make pie? How do you prep the pumpkin before mixing it as pie?

I cut mine up in large chunks and micro zap for 15 min or until soft. Peel and put it in a blender. (I use my ninja for this.) Then what I do is add 1 & 1/2 or 2 cups of the pumpkin ,two eggs, 1cup of sugar, Can use 1/2 brown and 1/2 cup white) spices then put it all in a zip lock freezer bag. Thaw and add 1 can evap milk. I must have enough for 12 pies in the freezer so far this year. My pumpkins did so well. I find that most pie pumpkins will make one pie. Good luck
