Will Rogers once said that the best doctors were veterinarians because they can't ask the patient what is wrong with them, they just have to know.  Personally I would like to find a doctor who does medicine rather than practice.

I had what was supposedly a minor elbow surgery 15 months ago.  Shortly after the procedure I came down with MRSA, a highly drug resistant infection commonly contacted in hospitals.  Now all these months later I am still dealing with a wound that refuses to heal.

A month ago the incision had finally stopped draining and was almost totally closed.  Then shortly after the first of this month it flared up again and a third surgery was proposed with the doctor indicating that it wasn't a big deal.  However, before operating he wanted me to see yet another specialist.

Now it turns out that the situation is a big deal.  The infection has moved into the bone and must be debrided.  Prior to the surgery and for approximately 8 weeks I will be once again on a super strong anti-biotic that must be given twice daily via a PICC line.

Needless to say I am not a happy camper yet it is something I can't ignore.  Doing nothing could result in the loss of the arm and perhaps even more.

Well OPA I can sympathize . I haven't been on BYC in a long time because I have been sick and off work for 3 months.
I had a bit of bad luck in early November. DH and I were dog sitting my son's dog, when I decided to take both my dog, Dewey, and his dog, Bosco, out for a walk. During the walk we had an altercation with a neighbors dog and I was bitten on the right wrist (by neighbors dog). Three days later it was infected so badly that the doctor told me I was within two hours of losing my right arm. I really didn't believe him until he told me that I needed immediate surgery and he would waive his fees since he was out of network for my insurance. That's when I finally started to believe him. Long story short I am recovering after four weeks of IV antibiotic therapy. Going to physical therapy. And off work until February 2.

Needless to say I'm not doing pysanky right now. I have nerve damage in my right thumb which makes it super sensitive to touch. They tell me it may take a year before it settles down. I'm praying it does because I can't see spending the rest of my life not being able to do my eggs. So instead, I have perfected the resin coating for the eggs and put it on just plain, undecorated eggs and it is awesome...
So OPA keep the faith. The PICC. Line wasn't so bad and they let DH give me my daily treatments, and I had a visiting nurse come in too. I'll pray for your recovery.

Sadly some jobs don't care if your kids are sick. Actually some jobs don't care if You are sick. I know a job like that where you're expected to turn up unless you are literally dead.
Unlike mine where if we're coughing, hacking, or just in general feel like poop they don't really want you there, no matter how much the client was looking forward to their massage that day. Nobody wants their MT to drip snot on them and get them sick.

The doctor waved his fee to get you on his operating table?? Yeah, that's when you know you're in deep chicken poop!

You got that right. My friend took me right from the dr office to the hospital where the surgeon was waiting for me at the door to the OR. Escorted me in and on to a gurney. That's when I thought... "Uh oh...I'm in big trouble here!" Then he told my friend, " I'm going to go and try to save your friends arm." Yikes. He did a great job...and I have the scar or prove it! LOL.

I sincerely hope and pray everything comes out alright for you Opa. I can't even imagine.
And also for you to glambka. Just the thought of not using my finger or thumb or hand or arm, or leading to more serious issues scares me. I hope you both heal soon!

Found a spool that is too perfect even for a goat toy. Don't worry, the goats are getting others. The joys of asking at a construction site if they're for sale, and being told to take 'em since they're going to be disposed of rather than reused! Only three fit in the truck. Getting some more tomorrow. Anway, this one is destined to be a table or something. Or a table bookshelf like this one. Oh my the possibilities! The one issue is that there are some logos stamped onto each side. I'd love to just use stain for the more natural wood color, but they do detract a little. Maybe I can find a way to tastefully cover them up and stain the rest.
What a great find! And LOVE the map idea! I was on the search for months to try to recreate this one with dowels & wheels. Never found the perfect spool -- maybe I should stop at a construction site!

Glambka, sorry to hear that you are having to go thru the intensive anti-biotic procedure. I know from past experience what a hassle it is. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Next week they will be installing the PICC line and starting the anti-biotic infusion. Hopefully the anti-biotic they use won't cause the severe itching the last one caused. Once I have been on the medication for a short period of time, they intend to reopen the arm and debride. Which as they explained it to me entails scraping the bone till it is bleeding well which will allow the anti-biotic to penetrate.

Once completed I will then have the PICC line in for 2 months. Given the length of time I will be dealing with this I am seriously considering getting rid of all my birds. Since chicken coops aren't the most sterile places I probably should avoid going in there and I hate for Hope to have to deal with all the work taking care of them entails.

Opa im very sorry to hear about all the crumby health stuffs. Hopefully it wont be as bad as they make it sound, my mom has had a few patients who have had the procedure done and the patient report was from its sore to i cant stand the pain, so i think it depends on the person.

i hope you heal up and recover well. Nerve damage always sucks but you can still function with it so long as your not a brain surgeon of something. The OH has serve nerve damage in both his hands, to the point of having to try to be mindful of touching hot things cause he will smell himself cooking before he ever feels anything.

Gosh, Glambka, I hope you get better soon. What a thing to go through.
Sam, hope you finally get your issue taken care of. Sure doesn't sound like fun!
