I am very thankful we didn't get snow although ours could use some freshening up.

We do not have tv but we have my sister always has an over the top Super Bowl party with vast quantities of food.

Silly - I was just thinking about your footless rooster. My toe less guinea is having a hard time today. I think her feet are sustaining more damage, they look swollen this evening. I'm not sure what to do at this point to keep her from having more damage.

Last night we had two fox out in the field frolicking in the moonlight. They were fortunate that that they were faster than my DH.

Sorry to hear about your snow woes - we have not had a single flake either, if it makes you feel better though our high temperature today was 6 degrees.

Totally thrilled to see this big bird at my feeder today!

Snow Woe....that's appropo!!

....not sure how much we got, with all the blowing there's no place to measure it properly.... at least a foot or more.
At least it was lightweight to shovel, but I'm still knackered from moving most of it today

he is very handsome we never get that close a look
Trefoil...I ordered 5 New Hampshire Red pullets. We are hoping to avoid getting roosters but understand that is a possibility.
you will love them, I have 1 she is so pretty, and 1 heck of a momma, she is still mothering chicks from last yr they are as big as she is. She sleeps with them and scolds others that try to eat what she thinks should be theirs.

Well, the last batch I had, were pretty good. They wouldn't go in at night on their own, but I could generally herd them in the lean too on the shed, because that is when I put their food out at night. So even when they free ranged, our bbw, fatty mcwaddles... yes she was huge.. was the boss and was eager to go in to eat and the rest followed.. So that is how I got them in. The lean too we used for them was just a roof and posts, we covered the open wall in lattes so it was cool in summer, and in winter we rolled down some reinforced plastic. I had some 2x4s for them too roost on. Since I have sent all mine to the freezer we will be building a new enclosure future birds. What I have been trying to do is to get a round wire corn crib with the top, and a solid one too. I just missed craigslist add for both ugh! Anyway I thought those would make nice turkey coop and run...and would allow the high perches turkeys love, yet keep them safe... that's what I want to do.
More than likely we'll do something similar to what Yaklady has for her birds. The floor has open flooring so the poops are easy to clean up.
If you do get lucky with the wire corn crib, remember to number the roof panels as you remove them, they only go on one way.

My first birds ( way too many years ago) were New Hampshire reds, Lovely, personable birds. You're going to love them and if you do end up with a rooster or two, they should be easy to trade.

We are in Britton, the very northeast corner of Lenawee county.

Howdy Neighbor. I'm over in Clinton, just a little west of you.

Yeah, I've been off and on the tractor plowing today since about nine this morning. I'm about bushed. I think we got about 14 inches here, and with that east wind we had it kinda messed up where everything drifted up. Had a huge mess next to our poop deck out in the barn, deck where we park the manure spreader under to dump the road apples into it. drifted all over it. Probably should have taken the blade off to use the tractor to pull it out, as it was full, but I really didn't feel like taking the blade off, moving the spreader, putting the blade back on, cleaning up around the deck, and then taking the blade off and moving the spreader again. I did go around the field backplowing with the blade to give my brother a path to go around the field will it with his quad, the normal way it gets dumped. He complained that it didn't plow deep enough for him. He got it dumped.

Quote: I was lucky that I didn't have any drifting where I have to shovel...actually had one drift that formed 18" away from the doors on one of my sheds, so less shoveling there.
The snow thrower on my ancient little JD L&G tractor makes for 'fun' and pretty easy work to clear the driveway, even the massive amount of plow wash from the shouldered road I live on...tho it rarely fails that I clear the drive, then they plow the shoulder.

This pic is from '07, that tractor is now a parts tractor and I have a newer one of the same series.
