Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

So my DW who hates my chickens says to me this morning so I was thinking WE should raise turkeys because turkey burger is expensive WE means me I will raise care for buthcher wmd process said turkey. So anyone raise turkey is there a thread for that?
Eat what you grow.... I would get some broad breasted turkeys, they grow fast and you get a lot of meat for the effort. You may.. may, be able to get a processor to grind turkey burger for you. If that is what I wanted to use the meat for, that is what I would do. I just fed my birds layer pellets since I have chickens too and also let them free range and gave them cracked corn. One of my Toms got to be 40 lbs and that was in just a few months.

I believe there is a turkey thread under the misc section toward the bottom of the forum list.

Lol, ain't that the truth. I woke up to the coop door standing wide open. One of my adult daughter's lives in a studio apartment we have on our property and she volunteered to shut the coops down for me last night since I had fallen on the ice yesterday out by the coops and got hurt. I headed out there this morning not only is the coop door wide open but she never latched the pop door grr...
Want it done right do it ourselves, right?

Hi everyone. A fellow Michiganian here, just beginning my chicken journey.
I've learned a lot already from this site and the forum. It's great to have a community like this.
Hi Mayble.

Lots of drifting, not sure how much we actually accumulated I'm sure it was over 12". We're lucky to have a plow on the truck, and it was DH's day off so he played a bit.

My parents had 4 ft drifts in their (500') driveway. Highsided their old Ford 8N tractor. Luckily they have good neighbors with larger tractors who came to the rescue.

LOVE good neighbors. Unfortunately we have one who's not so nice. We've been warned about her from multiple people. Today she decided to call animal control on us, twice within an hour... still not sure why, maybe just to cause trouble. First complaint was our dog was in her yard. Second time our dog tried to bite hers, in her yard. Our dog was in our fenced in yard the first time, and in the house the second time. Officer seen our fence and the dog both times, wasn't too happy with having to come out twice for nonsense.

Well Hi mayble. Welcome. Do you have any chickens yet?

Not yet, but "chicken math" has already struck. My original "Wouldn't it be nice to have a pet chicken" became "better make it 4-6 hens" - then when I ordered chicks it somehow turned into 12! I guess that's what happens when you can't decide on a breed.
Fortunately I picked a mid-April hatch date so I have time to prepare.
Thank you all for the welcome

When we moved here 15 yrs ago, we had the best neighbors. Had so much fun with them. Then one moved and a macho moron and idiot wife moved in. Ok, still had a fantastic neighbor on one side of me... and then he left. Now, there is a man and his girlfriend living there. He called the police cuz my chickens were in his yard! He could call the police and not us?? Needless to say, we don't speak. They don't speak to anyone. What is wrong with people???

You can come be my neighbor and then you not only can let your chooks run on my property but you could help me clean my coops, lol! Chin up Rose!

And, you'd be closer to HBHen!

Welcome to the newbies! I've found this place to be a wealth of information.

Ugh! Up until now its only been threats and unpleasant words, started soon as we moved in 6 months ago. We're in the country with some acres but the house is located way too close to property line. Conveniently the only place she chooses to take her dog to "do its business" is straight out from our only window on that side of the house.
Per the last owner her behavior is nothing new. She's been caught snooping with flashlight thru our privacy fence, reported previous owner for fallen tree during a storm, tree wasnt even near her yard, etc etc list goes on all nonsense.

I plan on getting a copy of township guidelines so I know the do's and dont's of getting this place to our liking, such as permanent chicken run. That way I know she has nothing solid to complain about next time. She can just keep blowing smoke.
