One of my turkeys died and his goose buddy is heart broken. I found them when I went out to feed, the goose was sitting beside the turkey and when I went to check on them he moved a few feet away, returning as soon as I left. I'm hoping he will befriend the other turkey. I hate to see him so sad.

Normally, TSC has EE, but they are listed as aracuanas (spelling?)

This is what they were listed as at rural king, I just considered them EE from what Ive gathered about typical hatchery stock.

I HIGHLY doubt that any hatchery sells real aracuanas, they are REALLY hard to get right with the tailless trait and not to mention they are likely to die in the egg from a lethal gene.

Are they better than TSC at getting the right breeds? All my favorite employees no longer work at the TSC in Paw Paw and most of the new employees know nothing about chickens. My husband loves Rural King. Maybe I will talk him into making a trip over there and act surprised when I see chicks...I already have four incubators full of chicken and quail eggs with approximately 50-60 chicks out in my brooder. I don't think a couple more will make a difference!


Trying to find someone to process a bunch of extra roosters that are ready to move out of the grow out pens! Any ideas?

was going to suggest the Amish, but some one beat me to it, They do a good job.

First time getting chicks from there, so we'll find out. The EE were not labeled as such, thats just what I'm calling them.

Lost one chick already... my two year old managed to sneak away to laundry room, found him sitting inside the brooder, he squished one.

going to TSC tomorrow, need dog food, will let you know if they have chicks, but I don't think they were getting them till the 23rd

What dog food has a recall? they always seem to keep that a secret.

Sorry to hear about your turkey Trefoil, geese really tend to make lifelong friends, hopefully he can buddy up - maybe a gosling this spring?

On February 11, 2015, Tuffy's Pet Foods, Inc. of Perham, Minnesota, announced it is recalling specific lots of Nutrisca Dry Dog Food because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.

Aye, no commercial hatchery will sell a purebred Araucana. And only Meyers has Ameraucanas. Any other hatchery that claims to sell Ameraucanas, "Americanas" and Araucanas is offering EEs. Sadly, it causes a great deal of confusion.

The lethal trait isn't too difficult to handle, though. Chicks who are homozygous for the dominant tufting are the ones that fail to hatch. If you breed tufted x tufted, expect about 25% of chicks to die in shell. The problem can be solved by breeding tufted x cleanfaced. You get 50% tufted birds either way.

Rumpless birds can have some reduced fertility. It is just a little more difficult for a rooster to hit is mark on a rumpless hen.

This. I have read this many times, worded various ways all over BYC. That is why when I see one of those "A" breeds, I dont know how to pronounce, I automatically think EE. It works for me because Im interested in a mixed flock with a colorful basket. It's not good for anywhere to offer mislabeled stock, personally, being new, I'm glad I've been pre-warned by this site because I wouldnt know how to tell them apart without looking at a reference guide.
