Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

so for anyone wanting to know how to legally import chickens into Michigan...two ways are possible...one the person that you are receiving the birds from have to be npip certified and upon shipping has to send the birds/eggs with the form vs 9-3 and your good to go or the other way...which the sender doesn't have to be npip certified and just sends the birds/eggs and then its the receivers responsibility within 90 days to get a health certificate...those are the two ways...also VERY IMPORTANT FOR MICHIGAN PEOPLE...ASK IF THE BIRDS HAVE BEEN VACCINATED WITH THE ILT VACCINATION....IF THEY HAVE YOU CANNOT HAVE THEM IF YOU DO THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE WILL PUT DOWN THE BIRDS AND MORE THEN LIKELY THE REST OF THE BIRDS AS WELL....hope this helps

Quick run to the feed store today for some more feed.

Yeah really, I'm glad I work indoors. My wife picked up feed yesterday and it was the cheepest I've seen it for a long time. I may go back and get some more, it's not like it will go bad in this cold.

my ee 's are super nice...the male is nice to people but not so nice to his ladies.....

and its done...the ayam cemani will be here within a month....when the weather gets a bit warmer...IM SUPER PUMPED UP ABOUT THIS......

I am excited for you too. They are so wild.

Normally, TSC has EE, but they are listed as aracuanas (spelling?)
I was just there, chick days start next weekend here. Ours don't list EE's just assorted straight run. LOL Which is how I ended up with a BBR OEGB (R.I.P. Sassy)

was going to suggest the Amish, but some one beat me to it, They do a good job.
sorry the one got squished but I hope you got a pic of your little one sitting in the brooder with the chicks, that is very sweet

going to TSC tomorrow, need dog food, will let you know if they have chicks, but I don't think they were getting them till the 23rd

What dog food has a recall? they always seem to keep that a secret.
Pedigree is still on the list too. Mine's allergic to it.

Several years ago, on my first year with chickens, I also had a aggresive pullet. Man, Zsa Zsa was such a bully! A few weeks later had to rename her to Rocky!

It's so cold!! I don't want to go out to take care of my chickens. Well, the garage chickens I don't mind! I can hear them yelling to be let out of their run so they can "free range" in the heated garage. Scratch in my plants and take a dust bath in their sand tub. And poop all over! But, I have a chicken that went blind, so have to make sure she is fed and watered. She's learning how to get around, and even lays in the nest box. She's enjoying life.

Stay warm, friends. It's slick out there, so be careful!

Yes spring is a mere 5 weeks away. Despite the cold, I heard a cardinal singing this morning. The male squirrels are chasing the female squirrel out front. I've been getting 6-9 eggs a day. And the willow twigs are leafing out.

So I'll have golden willow sapling for CS15 if anyone wants them. Let me know if you do and I'll get some potted up.
*raises hand* how much?

This. I have read this many times, worded various ways all over BYC. That is why when I see one of those "A" breeds, I dont know how to pronounce, I automatically think EE. It works for me because Im interested in a mixed flock with a colorful basket. It's not good for anywhere to offer mislabeled stock, personally, being new, I'm glad I've been pre-warned by this site because I wouldnt know how to tell them apart without looking at a reference guide.

Haha, they are weird words. But if you want to know how to pronounce "Araucanas" this site helps.

There are plenty of threads that offer pictures of Araucanas, Ameraucanas, and Easter Eggers in one post, to help folks identify their birds. And when in doubt, you can always ask here, or create a thread of your own with pictures :D

I PM'd Wynette (thread starter) and asked if it would be okay to join in with this group.
This is what I shared with Wynette,
I currently live in Pennsylvania. I grew up and lived in Michigan for 29 years. Is it okay for me to be a member in the Michigan thread? I don't have to post a lot, I just have a lot of interest in Michigan still, as most of my family lives there and we visit freqently.

Feel free to share your actual feelings concerning this, I won't be offended if you would rather not have a Pennsylvanian hanging around.
It says "All are Welcome"
:)
So Welcome

You know it is really cold when the stand-offish hen decides to roost with the common girls. Ethyl, my snooty EE who sleeps alone, is right in the middle of the roost bar.
