morning everyone....its minus 12 by me...holy chicken is that super cold

Good morning, That is pretty cold. I have no Idea what the temp it is here because Accuweather says the temp is 2 with a real feel of 20 and another weather app I have for my phone says the Temp is -5 real feel is -4. Neither one of those makes sense.

Several years ago, on my first year with chickens, I also had a aggresive pullet. Man, Zsa Zsa was such a bully! A few weeks later had to rename her to Rocky!

It's so cold!! I don't want to go out to take care of my chickens. Well, the garage chickens I don't mind! I can hear them yelling to be let out of their run so they can "free range" in the heated garage. Scratch in my plants and take a dust bath in their sand tub. And poop all over! But, I have a chicken that went blind, so have to make sure she is fed and watered. She's learning how to get around, and even lays in the nest box. She's enjoying life.

any one know the people that had their barn burn down the other day, a chicken flock and 1 goat I think I heard, didn't hear were it was

Yes spring is a mere 5 weeks away. Despite the cold, I heard a cardinal singing this morning. The male squirrels are chasing the female squirrel out front. I've been getting 6-9 eggs a day. And the willow twigs are leafing out.

So I'll have golden willow sapling for CS15 if anyone wants them. Let me know if you do and I'll get some potted up.

When it gets down close to zero, does it really matter just how cold it is?? Its still GORRAM COLD out there.

Quick run to the feed store today for some more feed.

On the subject of dog food, has anyone tried Earthborn?
I switched to it a few months ago and am very happy with it. I hesitated because it's so pricey at around $50 for 28 lbs, but that 28 lbs goes a loooong way without the fillers that are in so many foods. I used to feed Diamond or 4Health but the repeated recalls made me leery.
I'm feeding 3 dogs, all between 45 and 85 lbs, and one bag lasts 3-4 weeks. My 3 year old, 85 lb pitbull only eats about two cups per day and his skin issues have all cleared up. All the dogs look fantastic with shiny coats and good muscle.
The firm little poops are a bonus - so easy to clean up (again because of the lack of filler).

While cold is relative, it is not the kind of relative I like to have lately. This weekend is Pond Hockey in St. Ignace, wow 200 teams out on the open bay for 3 days in the single digits plus wind chill. Hope they dress warm! My Frost-Free Hydrant has frozen up again despite a heat tape

. Heading home with a blow dryer and some bubble wrap to try to fix that.
