Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

any of you that work for or with Veterinarians I made some soup out of boiled soup bones,,,,,,,can I give the bones (beef) to my dog?

I don't work with a veterinarian, but I know the answer. No. Do not give dogs cooked bones. Dogs can and do often enjoy raw bones. Cooking the bones changes their structure, they splinter and can cause intestinal perforations.

Even in raw form, the hardest bones in a large herbivore's body can cause trouble for dogs. Femurs are so hard they can break a dog's teeth.

X3 on the bones. And even raw, limit chewing time to 15 minutes or so - put the bones in a ziplock bag in the freezer between sessions, no need to defrost they will chew on it frozen.

Also, no poultry bones raw or cooked, and raw pork products of any kind are risky. Pork bones also tend to fragment into sharp pieces.

thanks to all on the bones, I knew bones other then beef are not good but always thought beef were OK even cooked. I did research feeding raw
at one time but it is rather costly if you have to buy from grocery store and you always need to feed outside. So I will toss the bones. can't afford expensive vet bills and don't want to risk harm

So I applied to get scrapie tags for my sheep/goats, and now I got a survey from the usda who's doing a search on farming operations. Call me paranoid, but I would be concerned if they would use the information to fish for taxes. I am not sure how to answer this thing.

If you garden toss them there they will eventually break down and add their nutrients to your soil...that's where mine go
