Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

After 3 days of running a heater in my garage to try to thaw the pipes in my master bath (located above aforementioned garage), I finally achieved flowing water in the bath again. Stupid pipes will most likely be frozen again tonight and tomorrow. Consumers Energy is going to love my bill this month. Grrrr . . . .
The only way to wrap the pipes with heat tape would involve tearing out a section of the garage ceiling and the insulation, then repairing it all. Not fun. But it's not fun dealing with frozen pipes every single winter whenever it hits zero or below, either.

I'm looking for some bantam Cochins, silkies, and Marans. Would love hens or chicks but I could do hatching eggs! if you have any of these breeds please message me or email me at [email protected] thanks!

welcome to byc and the michiganer thread....

You might be able to just let it drip all the time, keep the water moving slowly and keep it from freezing. It would be a lot easier than trying to thaw it once it's frozen.

Saw this in my yard today feasting on a songbird. Checked the coop and everything was all secure and the ladies were just fine.

Very pretty. Your bird of prey will likely stick to songbirds as a preferred prey. Think about how small most birds of prey actually are. They're very lightweight, actually. Taking on something as big as a chicken is out of most species ability.

If you have an insulated ceiling why are the pipes freezing?

I have a similar situation, but kitchen is over garage, never had a problem......
......and my hot water baseboard heating doesn't run into the kitchen, so I've always worried about it.

Might be a good idea to open the ceiling and assess the insulation there...cause yeah, dealing with that every winter, YUK.
