Are you guys sure these aren't speckled sussex???

Someone asked what would be the best chicken breed to get for egg production and size. If had just about every conceivable breed available and have found ISA browns to be the best bird readily available. Eggs usually extra large to jumbo and over 300 per year. The only breed that might be a better choice would be the Bragg Mountain Buff from an Oklahoma hatchery.

One of this days I going to figure out how to post videos directly from youtube but in the mean time hear is a link to an ad I thought not only funny but possible.
I love my Isa Browns. I only have one left but she lays every single day a beautiful almost dark brown egg.

cuteness award, your little guy is adorable,

question, son-in-law just called, wants to know what the best brown egg layer is? not looking for
dark just good sized med. sized brown eggs, His cust. think the white eggs came from the store and the blue and green are sick
My astralops have been good layers of large brown eggs, and they're personable.

Hi all I'm new to chickens, I currently have 6 sex links all 4 weeks old in the brooder. But now that I have done a little research I think I would like to get some sort of EE, either hens or chicks. I love just south of jackson, does anyone know anywhere semi local to buy other than tsc?

I'm in northern Oakland county, out by Pine Knob/DTE.

The Jubilees are beauties. They big, fluffy and very friendly.

Lol. I would love to sneak in some jubilees but I think my husband would notice a 16 hr road trip

As for my little ones in the incubator we stopped turning today. Hopefully we will have some little fuzzy butts soon!

More pics for everyones favorite game "find the roo"

From our last episode, we have Chicken B now a suspected cockerel, and the spotty one a suspected pullet.

here's a few more of Chicken B from tonight:

And now for the spotty one:

I'm pretty well convinced Rudy the Rooster is a cockerel, given his giant comb and wattles compared to the rest of the entire flock. I'd just prefer Chicken B also be a pullet and not a cockerel, lol.

Again if you missed previous post, these are about 5 weeks old as of Monday.

EDIT: Notice in the last picture how she/he has her/his beak open a bit? She/He seems to always keep it that way. I just thought it was interesting, the only one in the flock that does that.

Eight of my uncles and my father were in the military during WWII. Two more uncles served during the Korean Conflict so the tradition of military service in our was well established. So as I approached adulthood there was never any question about my entering the military and I served for six years. When my sons were old enough, without any prompting from me, they also answered the call. I am proud of my family's commitment to our nation and even today when I hear our National Anthem played or our flag is passing by, I find myself standing a little straighter.

Over the years I heard my different performers attempt to put their variation of singing the Star Spangled Banner and many were pretty sad sounding, some pittiful, and some I felt were almost disrespectful. Recently, my son David, introduced me to a rock band consisting of former service members called "Madison Rising". I had never heard of them and when he asked me to listen to their version of our anthem I was expecting to be critical. However, just the opposite was my reaction.

1 st one looks like a roo, not sure though I usually am not sure till I hear one crow!!.... as for being Sussex, I think you said they are EE and I have EE with a Sussex momma and they are very speckled.

Opa that was awesome I enjoyed it........., don't think DH would though, he hates it when any one changes even 1 note of how he thinks it was written.

Beautiful day, hope everyone got to be out in it for a little while

thanks for the replys, about the brown egg layer,,,,,, I did a little reading on the forum and most agreed ISA browns. glad you guys agree also, cause that's what I told him. along with the fact they do not breed true for more then 1 generation,

Finally have all the girls laying and still need to buy "white" eggs for the kids to color. Unless theirs a way to dye the brown ones I'm unaware of...
