Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Getting the coop I bought cleaned up some today. I'm power washing the exterior right now so we can paint it. It's realllly dirty and while I thought it was a gray color, it is now showing that it's a might more tan color :p. The interior is not cleaning up so well though. I think I'll need to get in there with a scrub brush and scraper. We're going to put some stick tile down to aid in future cleaning.

Did I mention it's super cold out there? I probably should be wearing something warmer than shorts :p. The wind and water makes it less fun; kinda like being on a ship.

This is a refuge for many of us chicken obsessed folk
Hey!! I'm not obsessed....I'm immersed...

Spray it down with a solution of Oxi Clean, let it sit for a half hour, then scrub it - loosens all the dirt and organic debris.

Hmmm - in denial I see... :D

Just finished harvesting my 8th bird in 5 days (old hens, excess cockerels from 13wks to 7mos),
mostly mine but 3 were a friends(who was rather ungrateful-grindsteeth).
No help here and can only do a few at a time.
Making room for new layers and have another 7 to do before fall.

Learning curve is hard, I've done 10 total since starting this journey and am getting better at it, improving tools and technique along the way.
I'm all about chickens for food and not really sentimental about them, but it's still hard to take a life.....and slicing the $hit out of your own flesh in the process.
Instant Karma maybe?.....blood for some blood?

Now have room in coop to move the 5wo chicks out of the house and into the coop where they belong-finally.
Need to do some setup for that, but building stuff is fun.....
......but really need to mow before more rain comes Friday, geezuz do the chores ever end?

Looking forward to getting the chicks out with new coop partition improvements that should speed integration.
That'll be fun to watch.

Just venting where it's understood, no need to respond...thanks for reading and I appreciate the understanding and empathy.

I am glad to hear that!! And you're probly right-- lumber is not cheap. Altho I did find some fairly ok 2x4s on the cull cart last year at Orange Box. I think I paid $0.26 for 10-footers. I mentioned Opa bcz if I'm recalling correctly, I think he built @preciouskitty 's... Very nice. You might want to consider a lime wash inside before you move them in, just in case.

I am relocating mine to a different area soon. Will be a 55' x ~85' pasture, a puddle, and my tractor coop inside that. Right now the girls have got sand over landscape fabric, and I do believe they get bored without worms.

@HollyDuckFarmer can you elaborate on the lime wash a bit? Are you talking like the 50lb bag of tall lime I saw at TSC for like $2.50 or something different?
