Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I'll be to hatch again some day! (though I'd still rather have a FBCM roo). I still haven't been able to hatch eggs from my own flock for the past 2 springs & it's depressing.

Meaties (2 doz) for DH's fair project should be coming within the next week.

All the farm critters are doing great... chickens, goaties, & buns.
Brett and I hatched a FBCM boy that has feathered legs, are you interested? At least we think it's a boy. Plus we probably also have a Welsummer boy too...Brett thought he was doing good choosing from a straight run bin (he was selecting for a pullet :) ) and looks like a boy.

Due to the potential for highly pathogenic avian influenza, 2015 poultry exhibitions are canceled throughout the state

For immediate release: June 01, 2015

If they are closing everything when we have no cases in Michigan, there are no birds migrating and its above 70 degrees what can we expect when it does actually make it to Michigan!

It's sad for the 4-h kids but on the bright side my fair week just got loads easier! I think that just leaves two pigs and a hedgehog to go this year now that the ducks and chickens can't and pigs are DH's to manage.

Due to the potential for Asian flu, all flights from Japan are cancelled.

Using the theatre of the absurd to point out the nonsense of this scare tactic, I mean press release.
Keep in mind that MDARD has an agenda to rid the state of backyard flocks. However they do not have the legal authority to impose such a restriction. Likewise they can not confiscate your animals or impose any other holds against your property.

Make up your own mind about attending CS or not. Just remember that this is the agency that buried the contaminated feed issue last fall. How many swine went to market for the holidays? How many turkey?

Hi! New to the back yard chicken world. My daughter's kindergarten class hatched a chick and we are the lucky family who gets to keep it. It's almost 5weeks old now but I'd really like a buddy for it. I'm in the birch run area, does anyone know where I can a single hen? TSC has been out for a while. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Do you have a Family Farm & Home? They sell individual chicks. Our store in Gaylord still has some.

Has anyone purchased from duck n coop in columbiaville? Looking to get some chicks and maybe another pekin to throw in the mix. Im in the saginaw area and dont want to pay shipping so looking for somewhere close by.

Also, today is the day the dept of agriculture is doing a site visit to measure the distance of our coop to determine if we are protected by the RTFA. (Which we are, our coop is set back over 300 feet from the neighboring homes)

Do you want something closer to 5 weeks old? They really do need a buddy ! Do you know what kind of bird the class hatched? Is it large or bantam?
