YES! Naming them was one of my favorite parts!

Do you have a picture of your red cross?

Mine are:

Welsummer: Leven (Dutch for "life)
Buff: Consuela
Light Brahma: Bahama Mama
Easter Egger: Ethel
Black Australorp: Beyonce

love it!

I can try to go get a picture of her now. brb.

I'm wondering, since my girls will be 20-24 weeks old in Sept-Oct, will they lay at all because of the decrease in light hours?
They might or they might not, you could use supplemental lighting.
Some first year layers will lay thru the winter without it, some won't.

I've used it for my first two winters, it needs to be applied and adjusted carefully...... it worked, but I think it screwed up their molting schedule.
Still haven't decided whether to use it this year again or not...probably will, just to get another year of data/experience.

I'm getting paranoid that I have a lot more than 3 cockerels in my group of 16 PULLETS. They are about 7 weeks and I'm seeing a lot more comb height than I'd like. A few are very obviously boys but it's entirely possible I have some "late bloomers" in there too.

Nice looking birds. at 7 weeks all mine started to have some comb growth. However my male's combs continued to grow, while the ladies sorta stopped. Now at 17 weeks the ladies are having a growth spurt with their combs/wattles.

Just curious if everyone names your chickens? I've had mine about 2 months now, I think I have their personalities figured out. Having a tough time coming up with names. My daughter named my barred rock, Oreo, of course. (Daughter is 24 yrs old, lol) I have 1 red cross who is very unsure, not mean or anything, just likes to hang back and watch everyone else. Suggestions?
Ours have names, but they were named more or less by identifying traits.

I have 3 easter eggers: Goldie (the most golden one) Dr Wily (has crazy puffy cheeks that are real wily) and Hawk Head (her head looks like a hawks)

the 3 Black Australorps are all named SAMCRO because they all looked like crows when they were younger. We identify them further by color of the band on their leg (blue, purple, pink)

Finally the reds are named Rudy (the alpha rooster) Chicken B (the non-alpha rooster) and finally Hen ***** (b word) aka Ms. Hen depending on if she is having a good day or a bad day.
