There are numerous bushes in the field behind my house, they ave pea sized red brrries. as a kid my mom warned me not to eat or even touch these berries as they are poison. Any thoughts?

Editing because yes, Silly is right a picture is worth a thousand words.

I'm guessing it's a type of bush honeysuckle (my parents have a lot of these on one of their property lines). If that is indeed what it is, the berries ARE poisonous, but you have to eat a LOT of them to get sick/have it be toxic (one of my nieces or nephews ate some a few years ago and poison control was called.)

Sadly our dog (almost 4yo and has imprinted on me) killed my favorite chicken Monday. Not sure if she felt jealous or instinct as a dog. But she has lost her free range privileges and is tied up if she is out with the chickens free ranging. Idk what to do. We were prepared for wild predators but not one from our "pack".
Please excuse me. I have been devoting more time to the gym than sitting online and read a week's worth of posts yesterday. Not trying to be a booger. I am sorry for your loss and that it came from a family member.

Further demonstrating my ability to put my foot in my mouth, as I was typing away about how great the chicken life is, Sunshine had an issue. I was at work and bf called around 7:30 pm to say that she was egg bound, oh no! She had a shell-less egg stuck and the other girls were trying to peck it! I told him to get some Vaseline on her bottom and call me back. Well, she passed not one but two shell less eggs and they are attached! Bf is so squeamish-he wasn't happy about the prospect of getting that personal with a chicken butt, and he was wierded out about the shell less eggs so he put a bucket over them and left them on the patio for me. (That man!) I know that young layers can develop shell less eggs, or she might not have gotten enough water or calcium. We're still on the chick starter because not everyone is laying yet, but I did get the big bag of oyster shell and I've been scattering it in their favorite places. Now I have a small bowl next to the food as well. We've gotten two rubber eggs as well, no idea who gave us those. They've been broken and eaten, boo. Sunshine is back on the nest box, i'll keep an eye on her. Her vent doesn't look swollen, and I did see her eat and drink today, now I need to confirm she's pooping as well.

I hope this is the appropriate place to post. I also posted this in the sell/buy/trade forums.

OMC, you'll need to work with your dog. Put him on a leash and walk among the chickens. Short leash, of course. Every time he looks or shows interest, loudly say NO! Do this for a couple of weeks until he shows no interest in the chickens. It will work. Be patient. My neighbor's dog who loves to catch rabbits and skunks was taught that the chickens are not his to play with. He doesn't bother them at all.

chickens may eat berrys that people can't, also a friend just told me she read a book on edible plants and berries. and those red berrys that have always been on the no eat list are really OK, he makes jam out of them. they are bitter but he eats them and has not gotten sick.for what it is worth, I don't think I would eat them but would not worry about the chickens

I watched the baby ducks pick flies right out of the air. I was pretty amazed.

love the pics, momma hen must be very upset,

flies are not to bad, here, I use the fly strips if they start to be a pest

RaZ you need some guinie, now that you have no neighbors. my vet gives a pill that will kill fleas fast then K9 advantix 11. works great and don't forget to take your vacuum out side after using or they will climb back out
