Ok, here is a better picture of the Welsummer we have up for sale. The other photo Brett posted was a bit dark. Brett got it from FFH in Corunna. What does everyone think, 15 weeks old, still not a Wellie?

This is my Wellie pair at about 13 weeks....not sure what you've got there, but no not a Welsummer.

Sorry, not certain what kind of bird that is, but it is definitely not a wellie.

O
I've been gone camping for the past week plus. I was happy to see it was under 200 posts to catch up on. I spent one afternoon driving over to Empire to pick up some birds. I also ran my first 5k that I've been training for since May. I survived although I was slow! I have pictures to share more than anything.

This is how overgrown my run. Is this year. The chickens didn't want to use it until it was tall enough for shade.

One of my new pairs of Faverroles.

OMG poor Martin, I have never had a hen molt that bad, but up until this year I've never had Silkies before either. I sure hope they never molt that bad. Have wondered myself how the quality of the birds are in Empire. I live near Cedar. I hatched my first 3 SF this Spring, such nice birds. I ended up with 2 Roo's & 1 hen, but sadly I noticed that the extra roo started having cross beak issues this week. His bottom beak had grown larger than the top beak. I trimmed & filed it , but he still has problems

Saved this from my reading:

I was reminded by Dawg53 about children's Benadryl recently. So if yellow jacket ground nests are around your property, keep some on hand. They will attack and sting with a nasty venom that can swell the tongue and trachea no matter where the bird is stung on the head. .5 cc of children's Benadryl, given orally with a syringe, minus the needle, for a mature LF hen can prevent death, especially in hot weather when birds are already a bit stressed. It is recommended not to give more than that amount, or give it more than once in a 24 hour period. I have a hen recovering now, and was glad my friend gave me a reminder.
That's good to know. I'll get some kid Benadryl to keep on hand.
The good news is that the hen is fine. I can't be positive that she was even stung. She squawked and jumped but the chicks were in the area so maybe it was a warning call.
I got tagged but I didn't get the full sting like I did a few days ago.
