Help! Found our missing hen today... with 3 chicks. Never had a mama before. Will mama keep them warm so we don't need a heat lamp? So far we put her and babies in an old single hole rabbit cage (1"x2" wire), loaded with straw and sitting inside the coop. Do they need to be separated like this? Or will she protect them of they're loose in the coop? The other birds consist of 6 hens and 3 ducks.

Thank you
1x2" spacing is too big. The chicks can get out but mother hen can't. You can wrap the cage with plastic mesh, it is cheap at the big box stores. Or straw bale walls around the cage, plywood or just about anything to keep the chicks with mom and safe from the other flock members. It is "just-in-case" but better safe than sorry. Mother hen will do a fine job keeping them warm and safe as long as she has them close.

So the latest test results are in.
All things are in the normal range including the ferritin which went from 1479 to 88. That was the factor holding up the surgery. So I expect that they will be scheduling the grand opening very soon.

So would anyone be willing to check on my animals while I'm in hospital?

Also, do you know anyone with a decent couch that they are getting rid of?

Tomorrow is the opening of the deer gun season and temperatures are better suited for fishing. I'll still go because it is opening day but unless a buck much larger than the ones I have hanging on the wall steps into my sights I won't be taking anything. We still have lots of time to fill our larder so I wil wait for colder weather. I think trying to hook in to some steelhead will be a much better use of the coming week.

This is all I'm seeing...a bunch of nothing....snow and blue jays...and an occasional squirrel.

Sam, I'm glad to hear you are able to go fishing or hunting. Been keeping you in my prayers. Hope you continue to improve.

RaZ, I'm sorry that I can't help out. You are just too far away. Too bad you didn't mention a used couch before we moved! Sorry....

Beautiful day, even if it's a little chilly. Sun is shinning and had a great day.

Take care.........
