If I only had your chicken troubles Raz... minus the court thing... How is that going?
I have been dying to open the coop and find an egg... No such luck.
Leave it to me to have mostly roos and hens that refuse to lay...
I was wondering if I should put a bait egg out there to see if I have an egg eater...Hmmm... I don't want them to learn to eat the eggs though.

It is quite possible that they are not ready yet.

My two faverolle girls were 6 months old before they started laying... Also, my GC and the serema are both 4 months and neither of them show any inclination yet either. Nor the Polish.

Squeezing chickens I'm feeling that way too. I have 6 that are 24 weeks and still no eggs, not even a squat. My two older ones have given me an egg each almost every day since they were 20 weeks. I'm starting to think I feed them too well- they're huge. Must be all the eggs building up

I've heard tell that hatchery birds lay faster than breeder birds... I know my faverolle boys and the polish that I got at chicken stock don't even look like they are near enough maturity. The boys are 4 months like I said and not a crow from either, and neither show's any interest in the hens. The polish and the serema cockerels though, they are. The serema hen looks like she's getting close, but the polish hen hasn't even started to show her wattles yet. The two dotte hens that I got at the beginning of June though, so they are a month older, are both laying now at 5 months, not steadily yet, but they are and they are hatchery stock.

Well, I was hoping that the person on CL in Pullman was a forum member and could show me some pics. She did get back to me though. It is a blue copper hen and a blue birchen boy... No pics yet. But, it would have been a nice starter pair. I have no marans. Yet. LOL

RaZ - Congratulations on so many eggs! Do you think it is because your hens get outside a lot and get a lot of light? Or is it the good food?
