Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I'm having the Amish build me a new coop this year so that I can actually keep my ladies for the winter. I have 6 babies this year and will probably plan to add about 6 more in a year or so. How many nesting boxes do I need?

Welcome back TJ! And welcome to all the newbies!

Well, looks like that we will be moving to Hesperia!!! We close on it in a week, but we won't move up there until we sell our place in Sparta, so we don't know when we will move. But, we can move most of our stuff there next week to get it ready, and to list our place on the market. Excited to finally upgrade 5 acres to almost 32 acres!!! :ya

One thing for sure, I will be dealing with more predators in Hesperia as its backed right into the National forest. :( The only predators I had to deal with in Sparta are Hawks and neighbor's dogs. But I am sure that my 100lb lab/shepherd dog will have a blast chasing the wildlife up there. :D

Anyone on here is going to be my new neighbors???

I cleaned the coop last weekend and put fresh bedding in the most commonly used nest box. So now the hens are laying on the floor in a nest of their own making. And they wait in line to use it.

2 weeks ago I blocked off 4 best boxes because they were roosting in them. They now have a total of 3 for around 13 hens. One of those 3 is a bucket on the floor because this time of year they usually try to hide eggs in the corner underneath where the nest boxes overhang.

Well I have been gone from this group for a couple years. Life threw some curves, had to sell off the flock and move into an apartment. Well good news. Got a mortgage in the works. Moving back to a small country place on 2 acres so time to start planning my new coop!

Welcome back! Hope your move goes smoothly and that you have happy times in your new home

Hi all. Something was trying to dig into my quail coop, but luckily I just redid the wire on the bottom last week. What could it of been? A mink? I'll probably have to lock up the chickens at night too since there run isn't as predator proof.
