Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

My hens' favorite place to lay is inside a stackable recycle bin. I removed the top, placed it at floor height, and wedged it under the lowest row of nest boxes. My hens generally by-pass the other 6 nest boxes for this one. At least once per week I find either two hens in the bin at the same time or one hen right outside the bin waiting for another to get done.

Anything that digs could have dug that hole. Good thing your wire is secure. You might consider placing a fencing apron along base of your fence, or a hot wire about 6" above ground level around the perimeter.

congratulations Farmerboy! Pictures ASAP! The cows will love it there.

Welcome back TJ! And welcome to all the newbies!

Well, looks like that we will be moving to Hesperia!!! We close on it in a week, but we won't move up there until we sell our place in Sparta, so we don't know when we will move. But, we can move most of our stuff there next week to get it ready, and to list our place on the market. Excited to finally upgrade 5 acres to almost 32 acres!!!

One thing for sure, I will be dealing with more predators in Hesperia as its backed right into the National forest.

The only predators I had to deal with in Sparta are Hawks and neighbor's dogs. But I am sure that my 100lb lab/shepherd dog will have a blast chasing the wildlife up there.

Anyone on here is going to be my new neighbors???
I'm pretty close. Closer than Sparta for sure. I still have your old phone # so I'll text you, or PM me the address. I'll swing by at some point.

One Mature Pekin Drake needs new home ASAP. Good yard duck, never leaves his assumed area, needs to be secure at night from predators. I have two drakes and he needs to go. Would make a great pet, or companion to hens (any breed). In a few days he goes on CL for $ but here he's free or B/O...I'd rather find a good home before offering him up to the masses.

Hi all. Something was trying to dig into my quail coop, but luckily I just redid the wire on the bottom last week. What could it of been? A mink? I'll probably have to lock up the chickens at night too since there run isn't as predator proof.
Pretty hard to tell what it was just from the digging. If you had a picture of a footprint, we might be able to give you a better idea of what it was. Ain't you glad you went with hardware cloth??

How far did it dig?
I found something similar in my garlic bed and know for a fact that it was a rabbit looking to nest.
I'd just fill that back in and keep an eye out.

welcome back TJ....Welcome Mr H. some of the FFH have farmers mkt. were customers come and sell critters, could get some then. or craigs list. for pullets.

Congratulations Farmerboy, were you able to find a house large enough for your family? You have quite a crew over there if I remember right.

sun is shining, grand-daughters are running around in shirt sleeves, I swear they are trying to get sick before spring break.

sure will be glad when temps get up around 50 or 60 and stay for a while

My Black Copper Marans rooster, from Wynette, is a very nice boy, and needs a new home ASAP. My Chantecler rooster has decided to beat him up, and he's just got to move on. Right now they are separated, but I'm not set up for totally separate flocks and roosters. PM me if you are interested. Mary
