Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

My older batch of chicks are entering the ugly "dinosaur" stage. Cracks me up how awful they look. They are also TWICE the size of the chicks I picked up last week. One week difference. The older ones are as tall as a quart jar when they are on alert...the younger ones only come just past half way up.

Had to wet down the ducks' food to get them to eat. I wondered the first few days about why people complained about them being so messy, but now I'm starting to understand. Really glad with my decision to use a XL plastic dog crate that I can hose out when they are done. ALSO we are getting the a-frame coop and run back from my MiL that dh built last year. Initially we thought they were just done with chickens but the REAL reason is they got a bigger coop that's up off the ground so MIL doesn't have to get down on the ground to get eggs. It should be just about PERFECT for the ducks.

I sat my portable fence up this weekend to let my big girls be out of the coop for longer and when I'm not around. Kicker has been that my last white hen I have has been hopping up on top of the straw bales I put around the coop to act as a wind break and getting out of the pen that way. Mom clipped one of her wings yesterday and she still got up and out. Going to fix her wagon here today.

Figures, had a little role of 2 foot wide chicken wire left and it ended up being about 4 feet short for what I needed it for. At least I had enough hardware wire scraps left over to cover the straw bales.

Murphy's Law.....or stashers law.....always just short and have to go buy more.

Yep, however I happened to have a few extra pieces of hardware cloth that was just enough to finish covering the gap.

Just enough of a barrier to keep them from being able to land on top of the straw bale wall there.

This fence is too Clucking High!!!

Attica!!

I posted in the duck forum, but I'm trying to figure out if the 3rd duckling is KC or something else. It looked different from all the other ones in the bin, and according to the employees and the sign, it should be mallard, KC, Rouen, or pekin. Bigger bill than the KCs, black/pink splotchy feet, and bluish down. Anyone have any ideas?? (I know, I know....wait until it grows. Lol)
