Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Jackieandchicks is in your general area - i know she feeds organic - maybe she can tell you where she buys feed from

Welcome!

I get Graham's organics from both Hudsonville Co-op and from FFH. I am trying Kalmbach's organic chick starter, but,my birds seem to prefer the Graham's as it is not processed into pellets or kibble. I do make my feed into a mash and/or ferment it a few days. Purina also has organic feed, but their whole label is not the best quality feed whether chicken, horse, dog, or cat.

Where in GR are you?

I have started selling my eggs to more customers, so much that when I was in FFH I bought...drumroll...16 chicks. Yup. Future egg layers. 8 EEs, 2 BO, 2 Asta, 2 BR, 2 Leghorns. Gotta keep my farm name "Eggs Of A Different Color" true and have enough girls to keep laying into the future...that's what I told myself, anyway!

Edit to add...18 chicks...two Isa! Chicken Math LOL!

does anyone know how is the quality of kalambach feeds, as compared to the Nutrena brands? (non-organic)
I use their Tribute horse feeds as they are one of the few that have fixed formulas (and even some organic ingredients). Most others....Purina is well known...will change out the ingredients for cheaper...usually corn...fillers so you really can't rely on the quality. Nutrena is another that switched from fixed formula to whatever is cheapest.

I would assume the chicken feed is the same.

Thank you Jackie, I think I've seen Graham's at the FFH down the road, I'll try that. I'm west of GR in Tallmadge Twp, near Allendale.

It's the little things that make you happy. Getting the chicks and ducks out of the basement made me happy. They all got along with no issues when put them all together in the duck coop (made me happy.) The first night though, getting them all into the coop was a chore. After a particularly grueling leg workout I was the designated "sumo-walk into the 3ft tall run to catch the ducks" person. However, since that first night everyone has been in the coop, all on their own, at dusk. And that makes me happy.
