Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I've been trying to find some information on obtaining NPIP certification. I don't have the time to do it right now, but just trying to get the information so that when I do, I can get it started.

Who here is NPIP certified, and what can you tell me about the requirements, costs, yearly re-certifications etc?

I just did the same... I emailed the Michigan rep and he sent me a list of people in the area who were certified to do it. They come to your house and test your flock and then you fill out paperwork and send it in. I guess pricing varies by the tester. I never followed it further though. How to get more info here: http://www.aphis.usda.gov/animal_health/animal_dis_spec/poultry/htba_part.shtml

One chick hatched so far, and four pipped! The one hatched looks to be a blue mottled by its light coloring, so I am excited about that. Really hoped I would get some blues and not all black mottled.

I am NPIP certified, have not used it though don't belong to 4-h and the serum is $$$ to get for my small flock
you can get certified at MSU they have a class in the spring, Chicken Grandma and I went to the class, I believe it was $20 to certify if you do X# of birds a yr, was not a lot I think 50? Keep records and send it in you get recertified with out having to re-take the class, If memory is right it was good for 2yrs.CG has a better memory then I she may remember....I do have the Info some place if you would like I can look it up

found the NPIP info, your certification is good for 3yrs. you need to do #) birds in that time show proof of testing by submit appropriate copy of the test chart t0 MDARD re apply 60 days before your certification expires, renewal fee is $20

Thanks for the information Scifisarah and Snowflake. I have sent an e-mail requesting more information to the link provided.

Snowflake, are you saying you are certified to do the testing?

Thanks ! You may also notice that it changes often this month. It is my show of support for a good friend / former BYCer who was diagnosed a year ago AND for those who I don't know that are fighting the fight ! I have had PINK in my avatar since and will continue as long as is needed.
And BTW while I am male I am secure in myself and really like PINK so that just makes it more fun..
