Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Welcome home, Raz! Mary
Welcome home, RaZ! Prayers for a speedy recovery!! Take it easy and listen to the doctor's orders!!!

Thank you. I'm happy to be home. It has certainly been an adventure and I have the scars to prove it. The visiting nurse will be coming in several times over the next few weeks to check up on me. So it looks like I'm going to be house-bound for the foreseeable future. Stop by to visit if you are in the area.

I picked up OPA's egg cartons yesterday, and had a nice visit. We missed by one weekend letting him know about Tillers International, and the Midwest Ox Drovers ***'n weekend there. Darn! Thanks, for the egg cartons! His coop is already gone. Mary

Raz Hopefully you find someone closer to take your boy.

Here is the pathetic looking fox that took 5 of my birds. Poor guy. My DH shot him about 10 foot from the backdoor. Hopefully he hasn't been around enough that my dogs will pick up his mites.

Curious..I had a neighbor, well intentioned tell me I should have caught and treated him. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? Not sure where that idea came from.

On egg cartons ... If any one is headed north, Mackinaw City north, I have about a three foot + stack of dozen and a half cartons I don't need.

You did that creature a favor.

There's bound to be somebody somewhere out there that would have taken it in to nurse it back to health. Just don't expect to see many volunteers here for that chore. It might not be a bad idea to think about giving your dogs a bath in the next day or so, just to be safe.

Got around the weed whipping around barn done today and found this in a corner.

Looks like a woodchuck hole to me, but I haven't found any other holes yet. Got the live trap all baited with apples and marshmellows, so I should get something out of there.

First and foremost, sorry about you losing your birds. I can't help but feel bad for that poor foxy fox though; poor mangy thing.

It still doesn't make up for it taking your birds, and predators get what they get, regardless of how sad their personal situation is.

Uh-oh. The Broody Fairy paid a visit to my coop over the weekend. When I went in to the hospital, I had one girl sitting on a clutch of 4. She was joined by 3 other hens which were booted from the new nests yesterday. 2 hens were sharing 18 eggs and the other was sitting on 9. The only hen who gets to sit is the one that started first when I took my little vacation.

That's how the fox looked who took my hens a few years ago, and he too was better off shot. I think that treating wild critters not on the endangered species list for something like mange weakens their gene pool, and spreads the problem to a wider group. Do watch your dogs and cats for this to surface too. Mary
