Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I have a lot of ducks (for the eggs). I have a 400 gallon pond but I have to empty and clean weekly. I let mine range all day. The only messy thing is the house and pond but they are ducks! Us lucky humans get to keep them all clean and such - the term "Lucky Duck" applies here.
Brett and I got a 5 foot round kiddie pool and drilled a hole down near the bottom on the side. He found a rubber piece that fits just right in that hole where we can remove and drain without having to bail that stinky water. Believe me, nine ducks can sure dirty a pool in minutes so we empty pretty much every other day. With a hose, we can direct the water to other areas or just down our dirt drive. Nice set up so far and we are not keeping all nine babies. We are patiently waiting to see what ones we can keep out of the group. :)

Hi all,
I'm in SE Michigan. I'm trying to rehome 5 Ancona ducks -2 male, 3 female. (2 black, 2 chocolate, 1 lavender). Very friendly, close-knit group. They free range on my 1acre property (and my neighbor's yard). They have access to a pond at the back of the house and go out every day and return late in afternoon like clock work. I get 2 eggs a day. Drakes are 1.5 years old, 2 girls are 2 years old and the other one is 3.
Eggs are wonderful and shells are hard without any supplements. Raised on Armada feed.

Main reasons for rehoming is our young dog chases them which is a shame because our old dog is fine with them. Plus travel has increased for my my husbands job and my own so caring for the flock has become difficult.

I'm willing to drop off up to 2 hours, or meet half way and pick up is fine, of course. Pics to follow.

Too bad not closer. My pond is emplty now that my swans are gone.

Got a lot of stuff done today. cleaned out the closet in the mud room and got a layer of dirt out of that. and sorted out some old coats and snowmobile suites to drop them off to Goodwill. With Mom's hip replacement on Wednesday, she's been on a cleaning tear here and we've been getting things ready for that. Got the new nest boxes all set up in the new coop and even had one of the girls use one of them today. And my brother and I cut down an old dead ash tree that was out in our pothole without dropping it on our heads. Always a plus there. Cut some of those branches off and got them into the coop for the roosts in there.

Kinda debating about putting something in under the sawdust in the nest box. somebody was kicking out/tossing out the sawdust while she was in there.

One of Candy and Brett's Iowa's working in the new nest box. Thinking with Mom's surgery on Wednesday, I'm just going to use that day to lock them into that tractor as nobody is really going to be home all day with that.

Best luck to your Mom

Snowflake, we were in your neck of the woods this past weekend. Camped in Double R Ranch. Had lots of fun.

We don't put straw in our run either. Shavings in the coop and straw in the nest boxes. There's enough work to do. Don't want to make more!

We have pine shavings also. But in the hen boxes we put nesting sheets first cause they can't scratch those out.
