Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hello all,
It was recommended to me on the new members page to join in my state thread, so here I am!

We are new to raising poultry - well, my parents raised chickens and ducks when I was young but it's been awhile - and my husband and I got 9 pullets, 4 turkeys, 2 Pilgrim geese, and a baker's dozen of ducks this past spring.

We live outside the Ann Arbor area on 10 acres.
Welcome!

As far as yellow jackets go, they are EVIL EVIL creatures. Don't asked me about the canoe trip where we stopped for a break and there was a nest of them under the floor of the outhouse...lol
What happened in the yellow jacket episode? It would be nice to know the story.

Does anyone by any chance have two unwanted pullets? Near the west Michigan area. I had a flock of five, and just lost two of my girls..... I am only allowed five, so I can really only take two. I would risk losing my whole flock if I took in more than that.

I'm down to my two "top hen"s, and my buff Orpington that has always been at the very bottom of the pecking order. They are doing fine as of right now, but I worry that eventually boredom will set in, and my poor buff will become picked on.

I'm not looking for any certain breeds. Just standard size. Preferably a few months old. I'm fine with mutts. I just really need some more girls!!

I won't be able to pick them up for another two weeks or so. If anyone has anything they would like to offer, feel free to PM me. I will pick them up from you, or meet up somewhere. I'm not picky :)

Thank you!

Hello all...I've been really busy with a new job that I love, and summer!

Would someone be so kind as to send me a link to those rooster peeper things? Also the banding? I am determined to band this years babies so I can tell them apart from my older birds this time!

Thanks all!

A game camera photo, the doe is a very good mother.

saw 3 bucks on my walk a couple days ago, then 4 more in another field, not sure if the 3 were part of that 3 or not,;;;;;;;;;;;;our daughter lives in the city and they had a mamma and 2 fawns in there back yard, they often see more then we do, out here they seem to be much more cautious
I've been cleared by the surgeon and the regular cardiologist. Cardiac rehab starts next week and they said that I can do moderate things. Firewood is moderate exercise. Right?

I had swallowtails like crazy in spring but they seem to be gone now. No monarchs have been sighted at all.
cooler today but you still need to take it easy, when you feel good it is too easy to over do

not getting any younger ,ya know!!

When I've been in rehab, they are all city folks, with a different concept of 'moderate' exercise. They may mean that you can carry light grocery bags. I think in terms of fifty pound bags of feed. Just sayin'.. Mary
