Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I guess you just did.  I'm alright. Mom passed away on Friday so I'm still kind of numb to everything.  Trying to do the stuff that needs to be done.
Good thing I thought I would check in this morning. It's been a while since I had bern here. I am so sorry about your mom. Prayers for you.

Meanwhile, of the six Wyandottes from TSC (Townline) , two have single combs! Barred Rocks, anyone? Mary

Single comb is something that creeps up in breeder birds too. It can be a hidden genetic thing. But obviously since the commercial hatcheries aren't too concerned with breeding to SOP, things like what comb certain birds are throwing is not going to be culled for. A couple of my TSC SLWs have single combs, but they will still feather like a hatchery SLW. If I'd had the chance, I would have only taken the chicks with the correct comb because i MUCH prefer the rose comb in the winter months, but I bought all the wyandottes they had. LOL!

Hi everyone! It's been a year since I had been here. Hope everyone are doing well. I still have the poultry, minus the peafowl. Too many to count, just butchered a turkey the other day, too many toms. Still have my cows, goats, sheep, and hogs. My daughter is almost 19 months old! Time flies too fast! We are expecting another baby girl! Due September 14. Have a good day! :)

Probably need to address the spilled feed.
Softness under there could be rodents tunneling in to eat.
Is your run covered, how do you keep the feeder from getting wet??

I feed inside, but like this for run 'bedding':
Here's a great description of contents and how to manage organic 'bedding' in a run or coop...and there's a great video of what it looks like.

Yes the run is covered but a lot of food spilled / still got wet thru the winter and spring. Hubs dug out the nastiness last night filled with dirt and mulch and it smells much better. We have a new feeder we put on a big patio stone so we can clean up spills better. Hopefully we won't have this issue again!

Question about Roos and hens. We have 2 roos that were supposed to be hens (or at least thats what the girl at FFH said). Anyway I have noticed that with our head roo he always has one of two hens with him at all times depending on where he is. If he is on the roost in the run one of our RIR hens will not leave his side. But if he is on the ground its one of our ISAs that is stuck to him like glue. I havent seen him chase any of the others off but they do tend to leave him and whoever is with him alone. Is this normal? the other hens dont really worry too much about him or the other roo. Just the two that stick with the dominate roo.

Congrats, and nice to meet you Farmerboy16. Farm babies are the best. Best wishes, and go have a blast.

Way cool Birdman. I probably would have peed a LOT if I went up in a chopper. I tell people I'm short for a reason..... I was meant to stay close to the ground. lol hubby and I are planning to go there in a couple years.
