Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I'm so sorry, RaZ! My heart goes out to you. She is without pain and at peace. I hope you find peace in your heart. If you were here, I'd give you a big hug.

As a newbie but an avid lurker, I must say that so far things seem to be going well. My 3 week old babies seem to all be doing quite well. The ducks are set free for free ranging first thing in the morning and my chicks enjoy multiple excursions while we are out and about working out back. The chicks love the lilac bushes, mulberry trees and shrubbery right behind their pen and beside the house.

I know I have no experience or advice to give being a newbie, but am excitedly realizing I will be raising ducks and chickens this winter. I just planted a bunch of sunflowers with the thought that come winter they may love a special treat. :) Though, thankfully, my last trip to TSC, I only came out with poultry feed and not anymore poultry. They were all peeping....but I was able to walk on by!

Keep sharing Chicken Masters, I know that all of your experience is really helpful to newbies.

ps...here are a couple of pics of my chicks and duckling gang.

Chicks were just put back into coop/run, since my daughter brought her border collie pup over. He was quite excited. My dog, Rusty, is my birdy guardian. He quickly ensured the puppy moved away from the pen with authority! I was so pleased, and my daughter was surprised! (My chicks names...Henny and Penny (Buffs) and Leafy and Roo (BlackStars). Thinking I may have a rooster, since one still has not grown its tail?

This is my duckling gang. They are like puppies too. 3 weeks old too, but much bigger! One has actually started to quack! Just praying and hoping that I don't have more than one drake! These silly ducks are getting to be adoreable! NO names yet for the duckling gang. Hard to tell them apart and we are waiting to be able to sex them and more individual personalities develop. One has a pale beak, the smallest one is the first to quack...so now just waiting.

We still are setting up our cam up and have not discovered any predators yet. Before the birds went outside, we had raccoons, possums, skunks, grey and red fox, and two stray cats! The only difference we have noticed is that my little dog (he is 8 years old) actually seems to be going outside on patrol more. (He never used to go out at night at all before, we actually thought that the wild animals scared him!!!) Almost every hour he sets off the camera!

RaZ, though I know your mom was ill, it is so hard to say goodbye to the one person who has known and loved you every minute since your birth (and before). You were so good to your Mom, and the care you have her was a gift beyond any other. So sorry for your loss.

My new incubator, after three days of setting it up, now has eggs (19 Chanteclers, 16 bantams) and tonight here's hoping it works! My bantam broody hen seems to have lost interest, so it's the incubator, or nothing. Meanwhile, of the six Wyandottes from TSC (Townline) , two have single combs! Barred Rocks, anyone? Mary
