Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I agree. Mine will act finicky at times and ignore the pellets. They come begging for treats but then get picky about what treats they get. It depends on what leftovers I had myself. The funny thing is that none of them go to roost at night without a full crop. Even the ones at the bottom of the pecking order are not going hungry.

Now if someone can explain why they would rather drink from a mud puddle when they have several founts of fresh clean water available.

Hi all...I have an incubator for sale. $25. Just hatched two batches of chicks with it. I just want to upgrade. In Zeeland...

Edit to add one of those heated water containers...I used it one season. $25

Quite honestly I would recommend you stop feeding anything but just an occasional treat and leave them their pellet free choice. They will not starve themselves and will eat when they're hungry. Food made into a mash with water will spoil very quickly especially in warm weather, and would have to be offered several times a day. I think your birds are pulling your leg a little bit.

What worried me though, is that mine were actually starving themselves! They were getting quite skinny (I felt them in their breast area even after eating, and they were just skin and bones). That's why I had to do something to get them eating. I don't want to overfeed them, but I do want to make sure they have enough!

We did. In fact we tried a different bag of the same brand and type (crumbles), then we switched (slowly) to a different brand, still crumbles and then we went back to the previous brand (agains slowly) but this time pellets. We tried everything, and they wouldn't eat the stupid food. And the worst is that their run is already bare of everything so they can't rely on free ranging either.

I have a mostly blind chicken. She sees shadows. She gets around pretty good. Know where the food and water is. Gets on her roost and nest box.
If you can, put the two chickens in a separate area. Maybe a separate coop, run area. A friend had a child's playhouse she got from Lowe's, I think, and made it into their own little home. I put my lame chicken in a dog exercise pen to keep her safe.
I'm embarking on a new adventure. I'm going to try the rain gutter grow system to grow my crops. Picked up all the elements and just need to set it up. Excited. Won't have to worry about watering every day. Talked to the guy I brought it from and it seems, once it's set up, the plants will take off, and all we have to do is pick the vegetables and enjoy!

Gee wiz, I was just looking at the Chickenstock sign-up/RSVP - who's bringing what, and it seems to be the smallest turnout ever? I know some people are coming and have not signed up. You should. At least to get an idea of who's coming, bringing what, etc. Don't be shy. Gee wiz
