Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Anyone else dealing with tiny flying biting bugs in their coop? Not fleas, some kind of midge? I sprayed the walls and bedding and birds last night, and they are still there today. Mite sized, but not mites. Mary

Hey out there,
I've got a duck question to put out there to the form. So one of my khakis and one of my muscovy went broody in tubs beside each other around the same time. They're twelve days into incubation and now they've switched nests. In the beginning I made VERY sure that the muscovy had muscovy eggs and the khaki had khaki eggs. WHAT do I do now? I can't mess with the khaki without scaring her and having her take off like a quacking angry rocket, day or night. Previously when one of my muscovy hatch khaki eggs they kind of ignore the duckling and it runs all over and mommy doesn't care (we lost one that way). If I don't figure out a way to switch them back before the khaki eggs are done cooking I'm looking at a whole lot of khaki ducklings running around like that unsupervised. Should I still try to switch the eggs later, like three or four days before hatch is due?

Hello! I'm from Indiana but I seen your post and just had to chime in. I raise Muscovy ducks. You can leave either eggs under the ducks. As long as they Muscovy's are only Muscovy eggs because they take 35 days to hatch and the Khaki's are only khaki's eggs because they take 25 days to hatch. Khaki's can hatch Muscovy eggs and Muscovy's can hatch Khaki's eggs. They can switch all they want. Once the khaki's start to hatch or are fully hatched, move the mother who was laying on them at hatch into another location. Other wise the other mother on Muscovy eggs will abandon and try to take the hatched ducklings.

I'm glad you guys had a nice time and I'm so sorry I couldn't be a part of it! Lansing is 1 hour and 40 mins away for me, things came up and I just couldn't take the drive

I met Sam ( I read so much about RaZ I feel I've met him too:lau) a few months ago, he seemed very nice! It would be nice to meet some of you that have been helping me learn about chickens, so next year for sure I will try again!

I look better on paper than I do in person. Sam is a great guy.
It takes me an hour and a half to get to Chicken Stock but I think it is well worth the drive.
