I second this^^^ Pain meds are risky in birds.

Have had several with bad limps. First, check skeletal conformation to see if it is indeed dislocated, comparing the 2 sides should give you a pretty good idea as a dislocation would be obvious.

If not dislocated, and bird is not getting around well at all I isolate in wire dog crate right in the coop with a daily outing(usually around roost time) to let her get some exercise and to assess her mobility. If still not great, I put back in crate after dark, or before if it's really bad. A few days of rest usually really helps, tho limp may last for a few weeks.

These fold-able wire crates are an essential chickeneering tool, IMO.

Aart,
I like the idea and will try it tonight. My injured chicken is on grass, in an enclosure close to the house. I didn't think about the isolation factor. One more question: if you have felt the leg might be dislocated, what did you do?
Thanks

One more question: if you have felt the leg might be dislocated, what did you do?
Have had several chicks with skeletal deformations affecting the leg function, but never an adult tho I would still euthanize, as it's not something I can fix and even if there were an avian vet around, it would be beyond my budget logic.

Anyone here? How did house hunting go, RaZ?
They rejected my bid. It was a fair bid based on the immediate work that needed to be done just to move in.

Seems the owner is in a home and the kids are handling her affairs.
Why do kids get so greedy over the stuff that their parents worked an entire lifetime to gain? Oh wait, I just described my sister.
