Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Busy day around the ole homestead. My neighbor called with with a lead on a free rooster. A year old lavender orp. I love orps and was awed when I saw my first lavender a few years ago. They are hard to find and quite expensive when you do. This handsome guy was free from a local chicken keeper.
I let him out of the cage with all of the other birds right there, even the turkeys. No fuss, no muss. He was very well behaved.
Out in the yard a few minutes later he was under the bird feeder calling for the hens about the food he found. About half the flock came running.
Three hens ate then squatted for him. He looks to be a decent mounter. Not rough at all. I think he will be a good addition. His name is Larry.

Now the new coop will have to be altered to keep the orps together and the others separated. I wonder what I'll get with a lavender over buff. Going to have to look for a few lavender hens now. And maybe enlarge the coop. LOL

I can tell you from experience that lavender over buff gives you black with gold neck leakage like a black sex-link. I have 2 from that cross.

If you have trouble finding lavender hens/chicks (which there are quite a few in your vicinity I think?) you could always use black hens and make it a multi-generational project.

Wasn't "Leisure Suit Larry" an early DOS computer programme?
The cage was from the neighbors who found this roo on line.
What was funny was the DH is a huge 6' 4" builder who was afraid to pick him up. I told what to do and he caught Larry right away. The gentleman was half afraid and half awed about how easy it was. My neighbor was impressed too.
This roo was docile enough that I could check him for lice/mites and overall health. I was pretty impressed myself that I was able to handle him like I did. I guess the fates were smiling on me today.

Here is a couple of photos of him after I let him out of the cage.

I don't think my Larry is that. He was on the porch while everyone else was in the coop for the night. I grabbed him and carried him to the sleeping place. He was gentle and tame as could be. I've never had a newbie settle in so quickly.

I'll still keep a close eye on him.
