I agree a rooster does help, we have lost hens to hawks, but many times I will look out and and there isn't a chicken insight, I check the sky and sure enough there is a hawk or 2 flying over head. I think sometimes the rooster gives the warning, the girls hide but maybe don't hide very well.:(

Thank you for the offer but I would really prefer a larger breed. Lovely looking rooster though! ☺

With roosters it's not about the size of the rooster, but the size of their ego

Maybe you ought to see if Candy has an Iowa roo that they don't want for breeding that she could send your way. I've not seen em in action, but they're supposed to be downright fearless when it comes down to saving their girls.

Starting this morning with 10” of wet snow and high winds. Can I have January back? It’s weather was much nicer than our last week.

We got over a foot of snow last night and it’s still coming down at a pretty good rate. High school baseball and softball were supposed to have games yesterday and today. This weather is stupid. Obviously it’s a snow day for the kids as well.

When we worked on the coop over the weekend we pulled all of the fence for the run down so we wouldn’t have to maneuver around it, and I put all 11 of my big hens into the smaller coop that should have 8 at the most in it during the winter, because it still has a good sized run for them to spread out in. Yeah. Not with a foot of snow. Arg!
