I agree a rooster does help, we have lost hens to hawks, but many times I will look out and and there isn't a chicken insight, I check the sky and sure enough there is a hawk or 2 flying over head. I think sometimes the rooster gives the warning, the girls hide but maybe don't hide very well.:(
 
Thank you for the offer but I would really prefer a larger breed. Lovely looking rooster though! ☺
Maybe you ought to see if Candy has an Iowa roo that they don't want for breeding that she could send your way. I've not seen em in action, but they're supposed to be downright fearless when it comes down to saving their girls.
