Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

So the chickens will be staying in the coop today while I go to work.
So the question is live-trap or SSS. I don't have a trap. I'll check with a neighbor but I think SSS when I get home.

Trap and shoot!!! 'Hanging around' is NOT good. The DNR may want to necropsy it too; their lab is at MSU. Try calling there when you have it, and don't damage (shoot) the head, so it can be rabies tested.

almost looks like it's right paw is injured.

so you can't shoot him? no means or desire or illegal?

I thought there was open season on coons, especially if they are or about to harm live stock.

Raz, I've said this before (many times) - you can kill all the predators you wish, and it will not make your birds any more secure. When you live in the country there is always another predator around - remember, you live in their neighborhood now, and they hunt to survive, not for fun. Only by building a predator-proof coop and run can you provide security for your animals. Killing them does nothing more than give the illusion of safety. And once you have provided that security, you can also enjoy the wildlife without concern.

Had a 'prober' here too.
Some digging at base of run wall, the one that faces to the open 'field' rather than the fenced yard, in a half dozen spots...and some raccoon(?) scat nearby. Not sure if it was really going for chickens or just digging for bugs(or stray scratch grains) in the soft soil.
