Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I didn't tap a single tree. But I did meet a local lady yesterday who had some local syrup. The label on the says "Not processed in a facility inspected by MDARD". Love it!

The egg cartons we sell at the local farmers market has to have that same information stuck to them! I will not have to worry about MDARD inspecting my chicken butts ;)

I'll have to make up some labels for mine if I start at any farmer markets. My regulars get the eggs as is.

The down side of working again is that my animals are are not happy with my erratic schedule. I'll make it up to them with extra treats come payday. Unfortunately, that is 2 weeks away. :barnie:he Can anyone float me a payday loan?

When we got our first chickens, 12 years ago, we already had a Doberman who was 11 years old. The chickens were separated by a fence so the dog couldn't get to them. One used to fly out though, and our dog didn't do anything to it, just looked at us. Then we had an ill hen in the house for awhile, and our Doberman left her alone too.

We're at a different residence now, and not set up to keep a dog separated from the poultry, and we have a free roaming Flemish Giant rabbit.

Well I have 8 chicks in my basement brooder now. Hopefully I can recruit the kids to help me clean out the chick coop this weekend when it warms up and get them out under the hover brooder. I stopped at TSC to get a bag of feed for the lavender orps, and the manager sold me 4 EE pullets for $0.50/ea. Whoops!

There was an older couple there and the husband was asking everyone that was looking at chicks about the different kinds and if we thought it would be OK to get chicks and put them right out into the coop. And EVERYONE kept explaining to him that NO. THAT IS A BAD IDEA. THEY NEED IT TO BE 80+ DEGREES. "well i have a heat lamp out there. but it was only about 60 degrees." I really hope he listened to his wife who said they should just come back at the end of the month when its a bit warmer out.

Starting to make garden plans for this year. I grew purple beans in my greenhouse last summer that were so delicious! I think they were royal burgundy? I can't remember. I know I bought the seeds at TSC, so I just need to keep checking as they get the rest of their seeds in. Those and sugar snap peas are high on my list of wants for this year.

This is one(main) reason I avoid the chick bins, can't stand to hear the ignorant conversations of the shoppers and sometimes the staff. SMH.

Shoot! Try wearing the red vest there. :barnie I get a few "experts",a few newbies who don't want any guidance, and the lovely customers that actually advice. One guy was like that yesterday. He listened to my advice, bought the correct stuff and decided to get the brooder set up first and make sure it was stabilized before bringing the chicks home. Another lady wanted ducks. She got her stuff a few days ago and asked for me by name to get her ducklings last night. :love
