Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

My dogs have never bothered the chickens. Guess it depends on the breed. Never had a bird dog breed. Keeshond, papillon and cavalier king charles. The Keeshond has passed but still have the other dogs.
Warming up today. Sure was a cold weekend. Enjoy the day all...

All of my dogs have been good with chickens. Until I got this rescue pup. He is very high energy and chases everything. I also think that he is not used to me be out so often or for so long. Heck, I ;m not used to it myself.

Devil dog is a rambunctious puppy. Hopefully he'll settle down and you have time to teach him that the chickens are off limits. Right now everything is a game to him.

We all make mistakes... certainly doesn't mean that we don't care about our wards.

I'm looking forward to getting some of that syrup John! Hope you can make it to CS.

I put 20 eggs in two bators... we'll see if I can get any chicks. I estimate half will not be viable because it took too long to accumulate that many. I'm down to 9 hens and only get one or two eggs a day. One hen I know is old, the others are 3 yrs and younger, I should get at least a half doz a day. Wish there was a really easy way to ID who is laying what eggs. I know the green eggs are coming from the EE's but, I have more EE's than eggs too. Slackers.

DH had been clear cutting the growth around our pond in the front yard, it's nice to have a view of it not obstructed by sumac and russian olive shrubs. We did find a very old grape vine that was over 12" at the base, grew up into a shrub and over 6' tall. We think it has to be pretty old to have gotten that big. I trimmed off a bunch of the dead stuff and small branches and we're going to cut it down to use in DH's snake house.

I started cleaning cutting and sealing some barn siding my dad had stored away. We're going to put it up in the basement. Hoping to get the finished half of the basement actually finished this year.

Goslings........ as cute as they are, no water fowl for me!

My dogs all have been great until my bully Sage came along, she is infatuated with the chickens...sometimes she is a help to herd the stray hen back in the coop, other times she just follows them around (hoping for an egg I think) and harasses them. She may have killed one, but there is something else doing it too.

I am working on another bully pup this spring I hope.

At least the weather is headed in the right direction, even though we got some snow this weekend and some more on the way Thursday too. This weekend is looking pretty good!

Lakota is very high energy. You should see him run. He flies as he leaps and bounds. He would make a great dock dog. He can also clear a 4 foot fence with ease.

That's why I redid the perimeter fencing for the run. Just did not think that a full bodied hen could clear 6 feet by jumping from the wood pile. I left the wood pile as something for them to search for bugs in.

Anyway, birds getting out was on me. And I need to get the devil dog a shock collar that actually works.

Devil dog is a working dog, and needs a job. Take him for some walks in the woods to tire his butt out!!
Kota is mutt of unknown breed type. He has features of German Shepard, Doberman, hound and 54 others. We were burning a lot of that energy before I started working.
Between the 2 jobs, I worked 7 days last week. I think he got bored and lonely. Even the old girl is acting differently.

I'm sure we will all adapt to a new routine.

Got home Saturday from a week at Disney. This weather can take a hike. 14 degrees this morning? No thanks. But. Some local friends of ours (friends in that we are on a few FB swaps together and I have picked up chicks for them when we have been traveling and were stopping anyway) messaged me to let me know that they were going to Clare for chicks and if they had lavenders did I want some. Ummm yes? So tomorrow I am picking up 4 lavender orps and some cloth diapers (offspring #4 due to arrive sometime in mid-September). Headed into town to re-stock the fridge for the week and I'll probably have to stop by TSC for a bag of chick feed and see what kinds of chicks they have now.

We start coaching middle school baseball next week, so I would like to have my brooder set up and working well before I am gone from the house 10+ hours a day between subbing and coaching. Which means I need to get off the computer. HAH!
