Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

That is all true. In addition, many respiratory illnesses are viral, which do not respond to antibiotics at all. I'm usually in the wait and see camp as well - especially as she seems to be active.

Antibiotics are harder to obtain now that the government has (finally) put a stop to OTC sales, in an attempt to limit improper use, which is one of the driving forces behind the development of antibiotic resistant infections. We who have been here for longer will well remember Opa's trials with MERSA after a very simple surgical procedure.

She may have aspirated some liquid while drinking. Does she rattle all the time or just sometimes?
Where did chick come from that you would suspect a bacterial infection that would need antibiotics? I would 'wait and see' but am kinda of 'anti-treatment'....especially with antibiotics when you don't have a lab verified organism diagnosis to choose the right med. It could just complicate the symptoms and detrimentally alter the natural immune system of the healthy birds. (Oops, sorry-rant over)

Thank you both for your input. I'm a naturalist as much as I can be I hate using chemicals and meds when they're not necessary. I was thinking the same thing about letting it ride for now but just wanted another opinion. I will keep a close eye on them all. Should be easy since they're in my house for the next week or two.

Speaking of which, I heard the bad word for you guys downstate on the weather for this weekend...
Ohhh..... you must have meant this @1muttsfan :

Was happily surprised to wake up to green - that isn't grass. ;)
So happy to be without that suburban neighbor competition. It still happens around here but not anyplace that I can see from any window of the house. It's still green though. Hundreds of shades and hues of green as the leaves, stems and shoots wake up and begin growing.

All I am missing is the crow of a rooster. Or the cry of a peacock.

Was happy to use some green today. Green as in the tractor...
Moved a bunch of leaves and soil that I have been composting all winter. Hopefully I'll get the garden ready for planting by Memorial weekend.
I picked up 8 peach trees and 2 cherry trees from work. They were in sad shape and marked down to $1.40 each. Even if only one or two survive, it will be a bargain. I'm using compost in the brooder trough as a temporary nursery. We will see how well that works.

Yeah, I have the spring fever. :wee

4 days into an experiment with the little ones and a hen that recently went broody on me. They're big enough that she wouldn't really see babies once she saw them. But with her being more mad that she can't go sit in her nest box in the big coop, she's not really going after them at all, and they don't seem to be totally terrified of her. Hopefully in another week or so I'm going to get brave and toss everyone together. Kinda hoping that she'll somewhat look over the little ones. We'll see what happens.
